The EA4 now has some real competition

Look HERE !!! Look at the price.

Shhh!!! Before someone tells SWM. >.<

oh god nooooooooo……
must resist very hard after i buy NITECORE EA4 :~

Yup, and it is really nice too. IMO, better than EA4.
Only thing missing; NW emitter option.

If only it had NW option and no battery cage.

Just bought two Fandyfire Rooks(< $20ea) two weeks ago!
Is it worth buying this one at ~$50?

I don't think it's even close. The SWM is much better just because the low is actually low.

Chloe, I don’t see a disadvantage to the battery carrier. It works just fine; easier than the EA4 for me, since I do not have to line up those tailcap pins. Plus, it allows for ‘tailcap’ lockout.

Tivo, It depends on whether the addition of Moon, better finishing, and NiMH opertation matter to you. The D40A output is higher too (especially on AA cells), not sure about throw.

But $30 for the low low mode? Any other outstanding feautures over the rook?
I’m about to hit the button last night from FT.

Thanks Relic. I’m using 3x 14500 on rooks.

This is just a dang purdy light!

Hehe, I see. Well, like I said, it comes down to refinements. This is a very nice looking light, the UI is near perfect (for me), it’s bright, and user upgradeable. With an XM-L2 NW, this will have me selling or gifting my EA4W.
If you can unload those rooks (even one of them), it’s a no-brainer.

Post about this ?

Sunwayman have just finished a giveaway on CPF for the neutral version of the D40A, and they mentioned that the winners may have a wait, since the neutral version is still under production. So, hope for the neutral version fairly soon. Question is, is it worth waiting and the risk of Sunwayman falling out with Fasttech over MAP?

Interesting conundrum, but do we even know what the MAP is, if any? Wallbuys started out around $75, then lowered it to $65, and then added GB option for $58.
I suspect, if there is a MAP, we’ll find out soon enough. Wallbuys and Fasttech have quite a bit of stock I suspect. Enough to garner the attention of SWM.

Fasttech has been selling SWM for a while.

Ahh, I see. I thought the EA4 tailcap design was quite neat but I haven’t had to change batteries in poor light. Lockout isn’t really a concern for me, running it on eneloops. I think the draw is so small anyway; I don’t expect the cells will be dead by the time I’ll need it this winter!

I must say, the elegance of a lack of battery cage was one of things that drew me to buy the EA4W over Li-ion alternatives. I just find battery cages a design turn-off in general though.

True enough, and I was being tongue in cheek. It would be nice to see a neutral version, though I still think SWM don’t produce enough neutrals.

Chloe, I see what you mean now. For me, the exterior looks trump any minor interior complexity. Especially when it doesn’t really make usage any more difficult.
You are correct about the tailcap lockout; the standby current is too small to worry about except for long term use. A 2000 mAh set of cells would last 1000-2000 hours in standby. My surprise was how the spec said 30uA and I measured it at 1-2mA.

I'm telling it to myself too. I hope that the time means there isn't a MAP problem.
