Panasonic Any Battery - mini review

Panasonic Any Battery LED Light. It comes in red and white.
The red looks like an 6-volt lantern light from 30-years ago, so I went with the white.

I have no idea what this says…

I got it from Amazon. It was a little expensive ($46 from Japan), but I was really curious about the light.
It got here in just a few days; I guess because the box had “Amazon Prime” tape on it, even though I don’t subscribe to the service.

Flashlight and Lantern Modes.

It has… 8 modes!
Off - 1 (D-cell) - Off - 2 (C-cell) - Off - 3 (AA-cell) - Off - 4 (AAA-cell)
You rotate the head, and the tab is the selector (green arrow)

The handle is reasonably solid, and a “foot” on the bottom of the light keeps it from rolling.

Rotate the back/body to open the battery compartment.

The front Lens looks like it could come off… I don’t think it will without breaking 4-tabs that hold it secure.

When you rotate the head, the piece the arrow points to recesses into the head, until you rotate a battery
into position, then it pops out a bit to make contact with the battery. I guess you could call it a “clicky”.

So you can throw (for all practical purposes) any battery in it. That could be useful in an emergency, maybe
not so much if you’re a flashoholic with a small army of lights and batteries.

The plastic is nice quality!

Size comparisons, and may as well stick to the iPhone color theme:
Panasonic Any Light
Icon Modus 2
L3 Illumination L10 (Nichia 219)

Quick and cheap, white wall (actually white plexiglas) shots:

Panasonic (Setting-1 D-cell); Icon Modus (Low 10-lumens); L10 (Low 3-lumens)

Panasonic (Setting-1 D-cell); Icon Modus (High 100-lumens)

Lantern Mode.

The good: any light is useful in an emergency/power outage. The “Any Battery” is a little more flexible than most lights.

The bad: you really can’t appreciate it from the beam shots… but the light output is kind of sad. :frowning:
I’ve had some “Fauxtons” from DealExtreme that were brighter/whiter than this.
It’s not completely terrible, and with 4-cells in it, the total runtime is probably quite a few hours; but I bet you can
count the lumen output on one hand, and the bonus blue/yellow halo isn’t going to set any beamshot awards.

It probably would be great light to give to someone who is elderly, and needs something reliable/simple. This is as simple
as it gets, and the head is easy to grab/turn, which could be good for someone who might have a hard time pushing a button.

Thank you for the review! What are the run-times like in lantern mode?

Thanks for the review.

I was interested in this when they were first released but I’m glad I didn’t buy one now.

x2 Thanks for the review.

Thanks for the review…….funny though a Japanese import Made In China

ok any battery? Try a 26650

I’m only guessing… is the list NIMH on top? Alkaline in the middle? “Heavy Duty” on the bottom?

So NIMH I’m guessing would be 50-hours (D-Cell); 25-hours (C-Cell); 8-hours (AA-Cell); 2 1/2-hours (AAA-cell).
That sounds reasonable.

The Lantern mode… there’s nothing to switch/do, you just flip the light onto it’s back. That’s it!
