Are these protected

I sent a PM and email to Jim at manafont but I’ll see if anyone here knows the answer to my question. Do you think these http://www.manafont.com/product_info.php/tailtip-2400mah-37v-18650-cell-p-1195 batteries are protected? I have a couple and I don’t see the protection circuit on the bottom like I do on my trustfire grey 18650s or my trustfire flames. I could just drain one and find out if I need to. Is the protection circuit always visible? I don’t think I would even ask this question if these batteries were on DX and listed as protected but I trust manafont a little more.
Edit: this one also http://www.manafont.com/product_info.php/tailflat-37v-2400mah-protected-18650-cell-p-1196

Hard to say. Does not look like all protected iv'e seen so far. Generally all 18650 without pcb were 65,0mm long this one is longer. However most that came with a protective pcb are 67,5+ mm in length.

If a protected 18650 you want better stick with the proven good ones would be my sincere advice.

These fit great in a solarforce L2i without cramming. I really doubt that they are protected but we will see if Jim weighs in here. They work just fine of course but I have been treating them as unprotected cells.

Try to dicharge them to around 3V it they go still below im afraid....

No. I think from the pics that the first one dont have a board at the negative end.

The ones in the bottom link are protected, You can see the outline of the disk on the negative end.

The first link, that does not seem to be the case.

In the pic of the second battery that is the + end that has the indentation line around it

I was looking at the bottom in the 3rd image, but you could be correct; might just be the shadow off the bottom edge of the battery.

Hm... difficult to tell, but I think both of them are unprotected

Both cells apear not to have the tell tale dents around the negative end, so they would seem not to be protected.

However...did you notice what it says on this cell - http://www.manafont.com/product_info.php/tailflat-37v-2400mah-protected-18650-cell-p-1196

IMR! @$3.85 I'll take a gamble that they are.

Piers, I have the battery that I got when I ordered that sku. Mine says that it is LC, lithium cobalt. I wonder if you order now will you get the one that says IMR? Im not really trusting their descriptions but that says it right on the battery. Well I guess we will find out soon enough.

I start a thread half assed complaining about a battery and I end up ordering more. I have problems.

Alright, in the name of science I am running the tail-tip battery into the ground to see what happens. If it goes below 2.7 I will have my answer.

Lang, taking one for the team.

Ok I had to take a break in the test because I had to come to work. I would have liked to have gone just a bit farther but here is where it’s at. When I turned off the light and tested the battery it was at 2.56v. After a fifteen minute rest it rebounded to 2.87v. Looks pretty bad for the Manafont “protected” battery. Test will resume in the morning.

Workin' graveyard. I did that for years.

2.45v and still sinking. |( No word from manafont yet. It is pretty cool looking straight into the R5 at that voltage.

This listing is for IMR batteries and shows ICR batteries. http://cgi.ebay.com/IMR-18650-LiMN-Lithium-3-7V-2400mah-Rechargable-Battery-/110674134358?pt=US_Batteries&hash=item19c4b14556#ht_7860wt_979 However farther down the page there are some batteries stamped IMR which resemble these batteries http://www.manafont.com/product_info.php/tailflat-37v-2400mah-protected-18650-cell-p-1196 which are listed as protected ICR batteries and stamped as IMR batteries. Did I get that right? Batteries make my head hurt.

For accuracy all I's should be replaced with L's

Yeah it seem they are out to confuse you :P
