I'm a database admin by vocation, and a gun person by avocation so my interest in lights came from a need for one to go with my ccw.
I started out with several lights that proved what you should not buy. Most notable among them a Brinkman Legend LX with a battery life that runs roughly 20 minutes and a Surefire G2 with a P61 assembly that was equally bad. My interest in mods/LED came from the fact that I was feeding lights $7 every 20 minutes.
I'm still a beginning junkie and my other hobbies (guns, knives, computers) take $ from my light budget so I haven't gone too deep in the waters here yet. I will admit, modding a 3D maglite to use a 50W Osrom so it can be seen from space has a certain appeal though.
Welcome again, Wiljen! Yup, it's a bugger splitting time between many different hobbies... and I'll warn you, modding can be more addicting that collecting
As a warning: don't read too many mod posts. I did, now I need a hobby lathe, tools, and a garage to put them all in. And copper pipe. about 5 feet of good copper pipe. (don't ask. and don't do a forum search!)
Too late, I already read that thread and wondered if you could roll crimp the lead edge of the copper pipe so as not to need the brass bevel. I figure it works for shotgun shells when loading slugs, might take a bit more force, but it should make for a good looking light.
Welcome to BLF! Some of us just like to open things to see how they’re put together, anything I touch my wife likes to add IFIED to my name.
