Direct drive

I understand the concept of direct driving a flashlight, at least I think I do, but I’m a bit unclear on the implementation. If the driver is taken out what does the pos+ post of the battery contact? I was thinking you could gut an old driver and connect the + wire to where the spring attaches to the board. What about the neg? Is the neg side if the emitter star just grounded to the pill? Feel free to post bunch of pics here

The driver board lives there - the usual reason for doing this is a cooked driver. Just run a wire from the centre contact to the LED +. The negative is almost always through the body and shouldn't need touching. You may need to put in some resistors to limit the current. Just remember how many watts are going through the resistor (Can be 10W for an XM-L).
