Nitecore now has an XP-E2 light, MT21A

http://www.nitecore.com/productDetail.aspx?id=90

Nitecore just released their XP-E2 2xAA light MT21A. 260 lumens and 200m beam distance. Just ordered one from Hkequipment. It has a nice price, ~$33.

i saw this yesterday

looks interesting and not a bad price

doesnt look like it can tail stand though :frowning:

although 2aa lights never tailstand well becuase theyre tall and skinny ;p

Your link does not work(edit that).

Looks like nice EDC light.

200 meters  Yes maybe some faint beam on highly reflective surface…

I would not expect usable beam on more than 50 meters.

Since I done lot of XP-E2 and I know how it can throw.

Heh, looks interesting, perhaps Ive missed something but isnt it rare to have XP-E2 in flashlights?

True. That was why I jumped in and opened this thread

Id love to see beamshots of this one vs JetBeam BA20 or Klarus P2A or Fenix E21.
10k cd vs 4.4k cd on my BA20 seems quite a difference even if its at the expense of spill, could be rather nice 2AA non-aspherical thrower!

Doingoutdoor now selling MT21A at $29. Tempting.

So has anyone tried one of these yet? I kind of want to buy one but I’m not really dying to get a 2*AA light right now.

Kokopelli, your link doesn’t work. It needs http:// otherwise it puts the forum url first.

Link should be ok now.

I wonder how it compares to the Nitecore MT-2A ? )

Very sleek. Looks like a Jedi light saber in black.

Same here, but IF theres review for it, I might snag one insantly after comparison beamshots to, lets say, E21/BA20/P2A :D!

My 2xAA backpack EDC is BA20, I do love 2xAA form factor, but only own BA20.

I have a Quark 2xAA with XP-G S2, a Fenix E21, LD25 and an unopened E25. I used to have a BA20 and a P2A but all gone by now.

I hope to be getting this light in my hands this week. I will try to make some comparison shots for MT21A vs E21 and Quark. I am hoping to get a beam as tight as the XP-G emitter Fenix LD40 but it may still not be a throw monster like a Fenix E40.

2xAA is a nice format for family members those may not understand how to handle LiIon batteries. And a throwy light usually gets more WOWs than a powerful but flood-ier light like BA20 or P2A.

Very sleek and well designed, has an appealing look about it like a much bigger light. I too will be interested in seeing how it actually performs. This one, if performance is like they say, will indeed make a nice gift for non-Li-ion family!

Thanks for pointing it out, appreciate it.

Youve handled E40?

Err, no, I haven’t. But I have a LD40. I think it should be even a sharper beam. Not a throw monster in real of course.

I got it today in my mailbox - bought from eBay user “vladimirbest” for $32.95 or something.

First impressions:

- Excellent build quality

- Beautiful design

- Square threads

- Well balanced weight, very pleasant to the touch and while holding it

- LED is perfectly centered

  • Modes are working as supposed

Performance:
With not-so-freshly-charged GP ReCyKo 1.2V it throws better than my Balder SE-1 (R3) and two pieces Xtar WK26, both on 14500 Li-ion, also not very fresh. Hotspot is slightly larger, brightness of the hotspot is noticeably higher and beam itself is also brighter. I’m currently charging two Sony LSD batteries and I also have some eneloops in my VHF radio which I will try later on, but I guess there won’t be much difference.

Unfortunately I don’t have the equipment nor the knowledge to take proper beamshots, but this is the best AA-powered thrower I’ve had. I really hope they introduce a 1x14500 version of this light.

One question, do you guys think I could use just one 14500 3.7V battery and a dummy battery? Or at least LiFePo4 at 3.2V? Nitecore says nothing about the accepted voltage, in the papers that came with the light it just says that 14500 are not supported but of course 2x14500 would be too much of a voltage for the pood LED.
However they say 2x1.5V AA is possible, so there’s a chance 1xLiFePo4 could be fine. And I think 3.2V compared to 2.4V provided by the 2xAA would be great.

I got an MT26 on auction from Vladimirbest a while ago. It was the fastest shipping I have ever recieved from China…ever.

Paid on 25/08/13, received 09/09/13 in Bulgaria, EU.
