So I finally got all the stuff, thanks for the advice of what to get. Now I’m just wondering how to handle the pill on the Convoy C8. Its quite deep and has a cap. So deep the spring wont connect to the battery unless I stuff something between the driver and the pill or use the spring that came with the host in some imaginative way.
The separate spring and white plastic bit came with the host, what are they for?
How do I get the drivers spring to connect with the battery?
You have a 17mm driver, and I believe that the C8 has a 20mm pill. Don’t worry, that’s normal. What you need now is a 20mm Partition board. There are other styles available also. I basically pretends its the bottom board of your driver. Just connect it with a small piece of wore from inner ring to inner ring, and outer ring to outer ring. It’s easy. You might want to pick up some extra springs too.
The white ring is to place over your emitter.
If memory serves correctly, the Convoy C8 host takes a 17mm driver and a 20mm emitter base.

Apparently I was just being retarded. It thought my driver base was slightly too big so I’d have to sandpaper it a bit. But now I see there’s a ledge in the pill and the cap is there to press the driver against the ledge. Then the spring is long enough.
It actually takes a 17mm driver and 16mm emitter base. But I read in a thread somewhere most C8:s take 20mm emitters. I guess the heat dissipation is better the larger the emitter base is?

I guess I should add a little bit of heat trasfer paste between the emitter base plate and the pill, right?
Will the reflector push the emitter base against the pill or do I have to shorten the wires from the driver so they sort of pull the emitterbase to the pill?
Sounds like I was wrong about the emitter base. I’m not going to do anymore Convoy C8 hosts. I hate the non-standard aluminum pill, and when I hydro tested a bunch of lights I had last night, the C8 was the worst of the bunch for water proofing. It’s too bad Solarforce does not offer the M3 head as a host without driver and emitter.
Yes. Just put some paste under the emitter PCB and the pressure from the reflector being screwed down will center it and push it down tight.
The Convoy C8 from fasttech takes a 16mm LED and 17mm driver.
Built 3 of them so far. Can’t say I’m too fond of the driver retention system - I’d be much happier with a brass pill you solder to. But otherwise it’s a pretty decent host.
