A quick test of a counterfeit Samsung 2A charger and another junky charger

I bought a copy of the Samsung ETA-P10X charger that is rated 5V 2A. The only reason I got the charger is that I needed the detachable europlug adapter in the back (for an original Samsung 2A charger with US plugs).

So how bad is it? At least it has a gap of 5mm between the primary and secondary side:

However, when checking with a “Charger Doctor” the power output is jumping between 0.7A-0.9A instead of the claimed 2A. Also there is a lot of noise:

Very bad.

The next charger is the HB-520-IC charger by an unknown manufacturer (the first rule of power supplies, don’t use a power supply that no manufacturer wants to be responsible for). This one came with an “Android TV stick”.

The casing is very popular with dozens of cheap models with the same plastic case but with totally different internals.

I’ve seen worse internals.

However, the output is not USB charger coded so I can only get 0.5A out of this one. So how is the output?

Very bad on this one as well.

And as a comparison, the output of an authentic Samsung 1A charger using the same settings as the above chargers:

Summary: Don’t buy cheap crap chargers (and no, you don’t get an authentic Samsung, HP or HTC chargers when you buy cheap from HK or China, no matter what the stores claim).

Those look atrocious! Was the output waveform measure with the charger under load, or idle?

Under load, around 1A for the “Samsung” charger (but the voltage and current was jumping up and down) and 500 mA for the other one.

Thanks for showing us your teardowns & scope results!
