About the UltraFire’s being pulled, Neal told me the lights will be returning under a different brand name. Not sure if that’s for all the UltraFires pulled or not.

+1 bout the UltraFire cells – it’s embarassing for sure. I get asked the same thing all the time.

I’m not an expert on this but if I may guess a bit. Ultrafire is based in Hong Kong along with DX and FT. This could mean that most of the Ultrafire lights on those two shops are genuine. Banggood and Gearbest are not based in HK (or nearby) and could sell more fakes. Hell, some of them can’t even spell Ultrafire right.

I don’t know if all are fakes on GB but some most likely are.

Real UltraFires are not really budget, more like a Black Shadow or Solar Force level of pricing and supposed quality. Couple of years ago, someone here posted about the real UltraFire branded Small Sun T08 look-alike, but it cost about $50-$60, while the T08 was like $25-$30. Externally they looked the same, but internally night and day - much higher quality machining and parts in the UltraFire.

Did you check the official UltraFire shop http://www.ultrafire-shop.net/page1.php ?

Special Discount on a UltraFire 501B with a T6 XML for $28 (ultrafire-shop.net 501B). FT's price is $10.76 (fasttech.com 501B) for same 3 modes.

I don't think they are the same light - I'm pretty certain the FT one is a clone.

I’ve bought a few of the 501b hosts on FT and they are cheap quality. Lens is ultra (pun not intended) thin and the switch is a joke, I do think they’re worth $5 though. I don’t know if it’s a fake or not as I just assume that Ultrafire makes cheap crap too. I also got an old gen 504b that is basically Solarforce L2 quality, it’s a tank. And Ultrafire’s websites are a complete joke, I can’t take anything on them seriously. Have they sold one flashlight yet in their precious official store? Silly Interesting nevertheless that BG completely removed all Ultrafire from the shop. Will be fun to see if they return and what they cost if that happens.

I wonder if the new brand may be Meco?

http://www.banggood.com/MECO-C8-CREE-XM-L2-2000LM-5-Modes-LED-Flashlight-1×18650-p-982569.html

There’s a bunch of them at BG.

Looks that way - Meco is the new no-name name, but they don't have the ZY-T11 clone yet. I got in the one from DX and it's a good one - nice alum. reflector, lock-out on tail thread, etc. Wai'tn on BG though - they should have a better price.

Hey Tom, did you get the Roche LS01 yet? If so is it any good for modding? Like not glued at least and alu reflector. For such a big host it’s very cheap.

It’s great for modding, once you get past the glue. It’s easier to just get the host from Simon’s Ali store

I always wanted a UltraFire UF-T60 because it’s set up for 2S for a easy MT-G2 mod.

But when you compare that to the price of the Small Sun ZY-T08.

Don’t think he sells them anymore, kind of a pity. It was a good quality host. Got 1 of the hosts running an DD MTG-2. Was quite happy with the outcome.

Looks the same yes @ less than Simon had the host for. Think the host was just over $18. I’ll have to check mine, but I can remember the lens was quite hazy, as shown in the above link. Got it cleaned eventually. An AR lens would be great, but to find budget ones (around $3 a piece) in this size is a bit of a pain. Thanks for the link.

I'm looking at one now and it has an AR lens standard. It has a slight blue tinge to it.

Thanks MRsDNF. I almost can’t believe it. I might have missed this, but I doubt if mine has an AR lens… I’ll look closely later today at mine. Where did you buy yours?

Which size does the reflector have? Is it like a zyt13 or t08? Or smaller?

I always wanted to try a xhp50 and I guess this would make a quick mod but I am unsure how well the reflector throws in stock form…

Hi Werner. I’d try to stick with OP reflectors for XHP. I hate any form of that dark center spot and its really a pain with SMO reflectors. I believe this reflector is too small for a proper XHP-50 ‘Thrower’.

Does anyone maybe have proper modded lux figures for XM-L2 in this light? Would be interesting to see how this compares to the Maxtoch’s (M24 & 2X). The reflector is quite a bit smaller.

Yes that’s the one. It’s very big (heavy at least) and cheap but if it’s glued I might get something else instead.

Mine came from the link above. I bought three as they were very cheap. I've had a few looks at the lens to double check if it is AR and it definitely has a very slight blue reflective tinge to it.

Edit. The Banggood link. Don't you love that name.

Edit two. I've just stuck a couple of protected batteries in this light and the tailcap will not screw on fully. Even with the brass pill on the spring removed it still does not do all the way up. There is about 4mm gap before the tailcap will screw all the way on with 70mm long batteries installed. It has mode memory and the reflector has a slight haze to it. Tailcap current draw on high is around 1 amp on high, .5 amp med and .12 amp on low.

True, and that was my first concern when I bought first NCR18650B protected cell (that was loooooong time ago), surprisingly I never had problems fitting then in any of my flashlights, they even fit my Nitecore MH20 and I was ready to bet they will not fit, good thing I don’t bet Big Smile

1W 50 lm Touch-Regulated Dimmable USB LED Light for $1.00 / NON-REF /

This is a great must-have thingie for using it as a camping light with power banks, etc. Warm and neutral white light color options are available.

Hint: 3+ pieces per $0.78 each. I also encourage you to use your accumulated BangGood points to reduce the paid amount by 15%!

just a side note, this little puppies are great but they don’t work so good with “smart” usb power banks like Xiaomi pb, actually when they are set to about 40% of intensity or below they don’t work at all. Smart power banks monitor current consumption and when this consumptions is low(er!) they presume that consumer device is fully charged and they cut off the power (shut down).
I bought Xiaomi 10400mAh power bank to use with this USB light but if I set the light to minimum intensity, which is still quite enough to light up the tent just enough but because consumption is so low that pb just shuts off and then you have to unplug and plug again USB light to get it working again and you have to crank up the output, somewhere to 50% and that is to much for my intended usage
Here is my review of Mini

I agree generally. Better to use ‘stupid’ power banks with these lights, such as this one:

You don’t need to unplug then plug again to the Xiaomi powerbank by the way—just press the Power button.

Just keeping in mind this downside of Xiaomi power banks. Because of this, some smart phones do not charge well, too: charging process shuts off after several seconds—right at the very beginning. Sad
