[02-NOV-2013] Performance improvements

Hi everyone,

I imagine that most of you have probably noticed that post submission has been a pretty pokey process lately. We were commonly observing delays of 5 to 20 seconds after hitting the post button. So I finally managed to do a bit of performance profiling, and I think I found the source of the hangup. (It was a subsystem that I never thought to check for performance issues.) So I made a fairly significant configuration change that seems to have greatly improved the speed of post submission. Please let me know how it works for you.

I noticed the slowness last night, so another test post.

Nope, that’s far too long, but I’m running a very intensive database optimization process at the moment, so it’ll be a bit slow for the next 20 minutes or so.

It’s funny, I have noticed the big lag, but I have become so accustomed to glitches in EVERYTHING computer related that I just accepted it.

Nope, that’s far too long, but I’m running a very intensive database optimization process at the moment, it’ll be a bit slow for the next 20 minutes or so.

This is much better now.

It was driving me crazy, but I just assumed it was a different subsystem that is less than optimal and can’t really be improved without completely re-coding it. Turns out it was something completely different that I never thought to check for performance issues.

Ok, the process finished now. Should be reasonably fast.
