Anyone else get the XP-11 from Wallbuys? Whaddya think?

This came in the other day, it’s pretty nice actually…plenty bright, throws well, solid construction, very compact, side clicky, tailcap magnet, clip. Sounds great, right?

How ’bout the UI? It sucks. A lot. 5-mode…H-M-L-Strobe-SOS, and you have to cycle through them ALL to turn it off…blerph. :weary:

“Great host!” I hear you saying…

I received my two ordered today, too. I like the quality of the host, but the UI is really bad. I try it a few times, if it is possible to shut it off without cycling all 5 modes, but I wasn't successful.

Another point is the driver make some noices in mid, low, strobe and SOS. Not extremly loud, but noticeable.

For the price it is ok.

I guess it could be made direct drive, but it gets hot on high!

Not XP-11, but very similar lights.. From crappy UI to wonderful UI.. :)

I like it a lot except for the 5 mode gauntlet to shut off, too. If it just had H-L, or H-M-L it would be worlds better. Still, great for $9 delivered half way around the world.

IMO, its far better than I had expected for the price. I already knew about the need to cycle through all 5 modes to turn it off so that wasnt a problem for me. High mode is well driven at 2.65A. The host is heavy enough to sink the heat better than most other lights its size when driven to this power level. Another pleasant surprise: ano and finish on my example are perfect. The tail cap magnet is quite strong and easily secures the light to metal surfaces at any angle. A nice light for the $9 price and still well worth the $11.58 going rate.

I’m like the rest of you I don’t like to cycle through 5 clicks for off, but everything else is great for a $9 dollar light. Gets very warm on extended high but doesn’t burn. Big hot spot. Perfect inside the house or car on low. The insides surprised me a little…is that a brass pill? Metal reflector and a plastic lens.
What I like most of all is the switch is EXACTLY where it’s supposed to be. Glad I got a pair.

I don't need more but if put back on promotion, I would be sorely tempted to buy more.

I bid on one like this on Ebay, and got it for 8 dollars:

I quite like it, but you do have to cycle through all modes, if you can get it cheaply it is a nice light.

Mine came in the mail yesterday. I was extremely impressed with the output, but the UI is a pain having to cycle through all the modes to turn off. If not for this, it would be a great “everyday using light”.

The other thing that I wonder about is parasitic drain since you can’t unscrew the tailcap slightly to lock it out.

Overall I like it for the price. Had I known how bright it was, I would have ordered more for Christmas gifts.

What struck me when mine arrived was the similarity to the Banggood Small Sun ZT-Y29 clone that was on the desk already,

mostly because of the wrist strap hole at the head.Differences, the xp-11 tint is cooler and the switch is a lot stiffer, too much.

The brightness and mode spacing seem about the same.I like the magnet. No ano on the tailcap so no lockout, the ZY-T will.

Could this thing be made into a simple, small, nice thrower by going DD and dedoming…for like, NO dollars?!

I may just sell it. Anyone looking for one of these? Gj?

Mine came in today - nice look'n light, magnet is real strong. I'll post some #'s on it shortly.

Tom, would a Qlite work on this light, with the whole side switch thing?

--> Well, it's an electronic switch - definitely, so, a straight QLite won't work out.

The driver is a standard 17mm size and the star is a standard 16mm size -- real nice!! No spring on the driver though - depends on button top cells. The pill is real brass and the reflector screws into the pill - nice setup for heat sinking, though the pill doesn't screw in to the body, but does fit snugly down by the driver. A little AS5 should help there.

The lens is 25.75mm x 1.43mm, so smaller than the P60 AR lens from RIC -- I'll check if it will fit...

Weight: 98 grams

Size: 119mm length, 29mm head, 25mm tail

The driver has the 2 leads for the electronic switch, and 2 leads for the emitter. Emitter wires are thin of course. Lots of vertical room over the driver in the pill - could add some copper in there if I want.

Mine does have the whining on med/lo, button is pretty stiff, and got to cycle thru modes - PIA...

Only found 3 resistors, a 10K, 100 ohm, and 0. Curious now if it's truly regulated - there is the micro 8 pinner, and 6 pin part, and looks like 1 cap. Modes/UI is sucky. Maybe need to order one of Dr. Jones drivers for electronic switch lights - as RaceR86 pointed out. Since the pill is brass, easy to solder the driver down, and I think if you stay with a low profile spring the driver comes with, should have adequate clearance for an unprotected cell like a Pana PD - solves a few of the problems Smile. With a nice 3.5A driving a XM-L2 on copper, not a bad light then... I got IOS XM-L2 U2 1D's coming, and am ordering the XM-L2 T6 4C's today. Think the 4C would be perfect in this light.

Gotta take pics while it's apart, then re-assemble and test in the lightbox and for throw as stock. Also, interested if one of my solder blob'ed Sam 20R's will get anymore current out of it. Hhhmmm...

Internally, that Aleto is different - notice it has a spring on the driver from the pics? Doesn't look like a brass pill either, dimensions are different, switch is different, doesn't have a screw-in reflector, .....

Ok - retested on a Samsung 20R w/solder blob on + end -- wow! 3.60A at the tail - assembled it does:

lumens: 731 at start, 649 at 30 secs (dropping fast, settles under 2 mins around 600), throw: 9.5 kcd

On the KeepPower 3400, 2.70A at the tail:

lumens: 646 at start, 592 at 30 secs (pretty steady, slow decline)

So, basically it's unregulated, highly dependent on the cell you use, and circuit resistance. So if I were to throw in a XM-L2 on copper using 24 gauge wires, copper braid the tailcap spring, betta it would do nice, but the UI in the driver sucks anyway, so better to have it regulated at about 3.5A or so...

Edit: The P60 AR lens from CNQ/FFL won't fit - can't get it past the threads, but it's darn close. Wonder if I could sand it down....

Thanks Tom! I’ll follow your progress with great interest. H)

Oh, sanded down the AR lens and got it to fit - it has some chips on the edges but pretty much hidden when assembled. For lumens, I could not see any difference, but hard to tell for sure because of the unregulated nature of the driver. I'm leaving it in. Can't get the bezel to fully tighten as much as it was (AR is slightly thicker 1.5mm to 2mm), but not really noticeable and shouldn't effect the seal. Treated the threads with Nyogel so much better anyway.

The Dr Jones driver is the ultimate fix for the horrid UI. Think I'll order 2 from him...
