SK98 Triple Nichia 219

So i just received my new batch of SK98 solid pill hosts from FT, however seems the host isn’t as good quality as my previous MT-G2 host

Its bright but after reading online about CRI and HCRI about different LEDs i guess i had to go and try see what all the fuss is about

Nevertheless, the pill is solid and can be used, so i went ahead and threw in a triple nichia 219 with carclo narrow optics (again, a light with its emitter costing more then the whole light itself), took out the driver and made it direct drive for maximum output (might consider putting in a 3 mode driver)

Triple nichia 219 4500k 92cri with carclo 10mm narrow optics
The light is BRIGHT, of course, not as bright as my MT-G2 but still, 92 cri!!

Why we love CRI LEDs, the camera cannot show much difference due to auto white balancing, but in real life it is MUCH nicer to look at, (MT-G2 is already neutral white at 5000k, against a normal 6500k cool white there is no comparison, lines is a result of PWM due to the MT-G2’s 5a driver)

Triple Nichia SK98 with MT-G2 SK98

Just love the SK98s (already have 5 of them each with a different LED), already thinking of the next build (maybe a triple XPG neutral :D)

Happy new year all!!

Hmm its hard to say, i love both of them since they’re both modded but if i had to pick one i’ll pick the triple nichia, its bright, has a usable throw and flood, long battery (running 1 × 3400mah eagletac vs 2 x IMR AW 750mah 18350) and doesn’t overheat as fast as the MT-G2

I use the MT-G2 more for shock and awe, to really define the meaning of bright flashlight, normally i’ll say “Hey look whats in my hand!!” and when they look i’ll shine the MT-G2 like 10cm away from my palm Big Smile
