Eneloop Pro and Eneloop Plus

Saw this at the other place. The Eneloop XX will be renamed the Eneloop Pro, with 2500 mAh capacity instead of the regular Eneloop's 2000mAh. It is keeping the black wrapper and will also come bundled with a black charger. The Eneloop Plus has overheating protection that could help if the battery is shorted or if the draw is too high.

Interesting....

Same batteries new name?

I must admit, gorgeous batteries, I find myself becoming arou....nvm. They look much sexier than my xx's. Also, the capacity is no longer labelled as 'minimum capacity': just 2,400 or 1,900 for the eneloop plus.

You mentioned eneloop plus has overheating protection. Is this a new feature, not present in the original eneloops/tones/glitters etc?

Marc

New feature.

No mention of the number of charge cycles? I wonder if this is a start of bad influence from Panasonic...

Good point and I just took a look at the link you provided. Hmm, 75% retention after 1 year? Are they referring to both Pro and Plus, or just the Pro? Also, I thought the graph / claims used to be up to 3 yrs retention....?

Nope, no mention of cycles, yet I have read elsewhere ~500 cycles for the XX [which is now just a label swap to Pro, I hope]. Who knows what will happen to the Plus with the new 'feature', hopefully nothing.

Looks like 2400 .

500 vs. 1000 never really mattered to me since i wasn't ever going to get close to either of those numbers of rechargings .. maybe on something like a cordless phone which are starting to take AA or AAA batteries but nothing else that i know of .It would have to be in a device like a phone that sits in a craddle getting a charge basiclly 24/ 7 .i can't think imagine even wanting to charge a battery 500 times..I'm tired just thinking about it ..Undecided

It's not that easy, it's not like the batteries are identical but one suddenly dies on the 501th charge while the other suddenly dies on the 1001th charge.

To be able to handle additional charge cycles the battery must be made more robust and resilient, the newer 1500 cycle eneloops are better built which makes it possibe to charge it more times compared to the older 1000 cycle ones.

I knew I should have researched this more. I received my first eneloops today; 16 AAs from Thomas Distributing. (3 days from order placed to product received)

Did I get the wrong ones?

Foy

they are the 1500’s not the new ones that aren’t out in the states yet and are supposed to be release in july … of the 3 …oldest current and not yet released in america you got the current ones

I'm guessing you're not referring to mAh when you say "1500." Unless the "1900" on the battery is incorrect?

applesandorangesFoy

they call it a 2000mah but it;s really a little over 1900. the older one supposed to be a 1000 charges.. then they bumped it up to be 1500 recharges .. on the duraloop i'm guessing that 's what the dx 1500 means . the new ones will be out someday i hope :( .. they have been in europe for 6 months now . my bet is they are about 4$ each or about the price of a gallon of gas .

The “eneloop plus” also features the self discharge control and other characteristics of the regular eneloop and can also be recharged by existing eneloop chargers as well. “eneloop plus” will be showcased at the “International Tokyo Toy Show” to be held in Tokyo Big Sight, from June 16 to 19, 2011. if you build it .. they will come .

No.

The Japanese price for the "Eneloop Pro" will be around $16 for a two-pack.

$8 each? That's still cheaper than 'a gallon of gas' over here, which is about $10. I can get the XXs for $16 for 4 easily with free 2 day delivery, but I haven't gone for any yet.

I prefer the design on the eneloop pros but is there definately no real difference inside to merit the price increase?

I assume they will be cheaper in the states than in europe .. so sub 4 bucks . eneloop are such a great battery ad have been so cheap for so long .. deals down to a buck a battery and a million rebadged ones .i doubt that an expensive eneloop will sell ..i haven't heard anyone in europe on this site rushing off to get the latest and greatest ..problem is old eneloops work wonderfully and last forever ..I have other stuff and wonder why I ever bought it .

I agree, I bought a pack of 4 Sanyo XX a month ago for $18+tax. In retrospect I wouldn't have bothered paying that premium for 1/4 extra capacity. Not when I can just swap another set of original eneloops. Bah, shiny new batteries and I fell for it,haha.

By the way, where have you seen deals for eneloops as low as $1.00 a battery? Lowest I've paid was ~10 bucks / 4. Or, ~8 bucks for 4 duraloops.

duraloops

Locally they are $5 for a 4pack .. kid at the flea market has had them .. he's only got the durabrids at this point but for 5$ I have bought 40 of those as well to gift or just have as spares .Even then he cuts me a deals on quantities so it's less than 1.25 . hey we need the deals ..you have all the cash these days ..

can i borrow 20 bucks ?

I have so many Eneloops and Duraloops, I lost count. I wish they make them in 18650 size and bundle with a charger. I'd hit that just so I can make some nice gift lights for some loved ones.

They're called 4/3A size. But AFAIK nobody makes LSD cells in that size.

The 4/3A is actually 16650 or 16660. And yes, they're not LSD, though I've seen Panasonic and Sanyo brands. The charger is more important. I could easily rig something up and the cells would fit just right in a SF 6P.

But, gifts like that should be well made and reliable...
