The MJ-808 won multiple awards as the best value bike light even at retail price of over £60 here in the UK. The upgraded version with an XM-L (MJ 808e) and 50% more light came out at DX a month or so back, I was considering getting it at only $79. Now it appears on Manafont for $58, thats about £35! I seriously don't know how they've managed this..
how do you know this is the E version and not the X version? I contacted manafont about this just 2 hours ago..I want one!
edit: the DX E version states 2400 mah current while the manafont one states 2800 mah..i'm pretty sure this is the upgraded X version with the better driver..
Isn't the 'x' version meant to be 3 amps current output? With overheat protection and a higher capacity battery pack. I'd be skeptical they could do the 'x' version at that price without making a loss.. I can hope though.
Also, the 1200 lumen output claim is certainly different on all the packaging etc than the 1000 lumens of the dx 'e' version. I think this may be an in between model if that is possible though as the runtime claimed is 180 minutes instead of 240 minutes as on the official 'x' version.
yes 3 a is supposed to be the X version but who knows with the specs posted at these HK sites..let know know when you get it what the draw is if you could..I will be buying it in a week or so..
I'll try to, but I'm not sure how to measure current on this, with it being a connect through a plug direct to the battery pack deal.. Can you let me know when you get a reply from manafont about specs.
Be aware! This is NOT the MagicShine MJ-808E nor X. It's a copy of it. That's why is chepaer and of course nowhere near 1200 lumens. I own original old MJ-808 (P7) and have also MJ-808E housing, so I know how it should look.
Yeah, I can see the differences in the head design and reflector, the box looks the same as other dx versions by magicshine though and the whole set-up appears very similar. I'll post a report when it arrives.
Sorry, but the box looks very different. The setup is similar, but not the same. I hope connector is waterproof like at MJ. Yes please report back to us when you get it.
I actually meant an older box which I could've sworn was on dx to advertise a magicshine P7 light. I certainly recognised it on this one. That doesn't really mean anything though other than they can copy the box too.
I think I was remembering an ebay listing for a 'Magicshine' with the same box.
Anyway, I got it today and it's really good. The output is easily on par with my Manafont XM-L drop-ins with UCL. No dust on the reflector/lense, perfectly centered emitter, great beam pattern. Tint is surprisingly nice too, leaning towards neutral. Low mode is about 10-20% I'd say, and done by relatively low frequency PWM, but not too bad at all.
It's a little smaller than I'd imagined. Also, the battery pack came at 7.68v, all seems in order, I did a quick dissasembly (also to clean a smudge off the emitter dome) and the heatsinking seems done well, I'm looking forward to using it tonight!
Oh, and sorry but I couldn't measure current as I don't know how to do that across the connection cables. By output I'd guess the 2.8A was accurate though.
I'm glad to hear you are satisfied. To measure the current you would have to desolder positive wire and put Multimeter between wire and led, but never mind, hopefuly is 2,8A
I'll be glad if you can make some detail photos, maybe quick review? And also is it connector waterproff like is with Magishine? It can be important in a rainy weather.
Yes, I thought of that method but didn't want to go down that route, or you get sucked in and you end up with a neutral emitter in it scavenged from another light and lots of pieces all over the place ;)
I will try and get some decent pictures when I have time, but I will be away until Thursday afternoon from tomorrow so not until then at least. The connector looks pretty much the same as the Magicshine, water-resistant, I would happily use it in the rain, but no scuba-cycling for sure!
Also, the anodizing quality is superb, up there with zebralight, surefire, and L2p standard, which I consider the best. I have to say again, output is awesome, I would probably have still been very pleased with this if I'd paid twice as much. If you have a bike, and £30, then I say get it.
Great that's good information for other buyers, I already have an older MJ-808 SSC P7. Pictures and runtime would be fine even some time later. Good driven XM-L can produce quite a lot of light and with good reflector it is about 30% better than P7. I had chance to compare MJ-808 and MJ-808E.
I'm also curious if it has cable long enough to carry your battery pack in a backpack and if the switch on the lamp is glowing in some color (MJ-808 has green/red, newer MJ-808E has green/blue/orange/red combination showing battery pack state). And at last what current charger is using? The similar one at DX is only 1A while MagicShine is 1.8A.
Ok, I'll do the link. The cable is pretty long, I haven't undone it all the way as mine is only attached to the bike body, but I think it should easily reach all the way to a back pack. The light on the back of the actual light engine was glowing green at 7.68v when it arrived, and is still on green after a full charge (termination at 8.42v) and then about 45 minutes runtime on high, so I can't tell you what colour it changes to as the batteries run down. I'll update this thread with info as I find out.
