Loading pages directly to new posts

Its not a big deal but is it possible to have a page load to the new posts and fill in the pics above as they load instead of having to wait till all the pictures load then the browser properly navigating to the new posts (especially for image servers that are slow and move the text when it loads a few seconds or minutes later), for example there are 6 new posts in the what you got today thread, if i click on 6 on the subscriptions page it navigates to the thread, and all the pictures start loading, the page is jumping around as they are filled in and not until they are all loaded does it navigate to the new posts, and sometimes if the image server is very slow i navigate to the new posts myself but as i am reading they fill in and the page jumps again

Its hard to explain so if this makes no sense please try it yourself on a pic heavy thread, especially one with pics from different servers.

I just tried the “What you got today” thread. Opened the thread and clicked on x New link, the thread jumped around for a split second then settled on the new posts. I see what you mean about jumping around until all the photos load but it was no more than 0.25-0.5 seconds for me. And I haven’t checked in on that thread for a long time.

I know exactly what you mean and find it frustrating (esp. on a mobile device). If they are images I have already seen (usually a bunch of images in the first post), I will let it load a bit and then click the "x" to cancel loading the remainder of the page. If there are in fact images in the new posts then I will have to reload the page to see them.

Use tabs. Open one in the next tab, then open one you think is photo heavy in a 2nd tab. Read the first while the second loads.

I’ve moved to having posts load in reverse order and only 10 of them - so I get the original post, then the replies in reverse. For most threads I don’t load a lot of pics that way. If I’ve missed more than 10 and I’m following the thread, then I load the next page and just use the back function of the browser as I read up to newer posts.

I made the change as I moved to using mostly mobile connections and it’s a lot better since I seldom have fast wireless available now.

It would be nice if the previous button took you to the last post of the previous page rather than the first. The page number buttons do that already.

You could always leave all the threads open in separate tabs and just hit refresh to load the new posts.
