New: Sunwayman F40A 4xAA

Now my review here:https://budgetlightforum.com/t/-/27165

This is quite interesting ;)

I want, I want, I want. They even changed to better buttons.

They have been inspired by Nitecore I guess. I'm not a hunter, so I can't judge the 'blood stain' properties of blue light, but I will choose the throw of the bigger reflector D40A any time over this gadget light.

The smaller central reflector bothered me at first thought too, but it's a trade off. I really like having read when my eyes are night adjusted and I want to keep them night adjusted. The key will be in the UI for me.

I like that it doesn't use a battery carrier, and the switch looks nicer. But it's less powerful than the D40A. I don't like the multi-colored LEDS. Smaller reflector too

Ah, good catch. That’s strange that they wouldn’t offer at least the same brightness as the D40A. Mine’s still working great, and neutral white too. I couldn’t ask for more.

I love my cool white D40A. Too bad they didn't improve on that with a carrier-less battery holder. The switch buttons on mine are holding up very well, but the newly designed switch looks a bit better..

I kinda like the D40A more, as a light I would use...

reds and blues are not so useful for me.... at the moment...

I might be interested if they make a version with UV and IR instead of red and blue.

I like the newer case style and buttons, but that’s about it. I wish they would offer a D40A v2 or something with the updates from this one. I don’t mind hidden gadget modes but not if I have to give up half the reflector and some of the output. The new one looks fantastic, but I’ll stick with my D40A for now.

Agreed with what you said. I'd be all over a D40A version 2 in a second.

Let’s hope that some member of the Sunwayman staff is reading this thread.

No need for the red/blue either. Seems gimmicky.

I have 3 D40As. Love those damn things, perfect AA light in my opinion. Maybe we’ll see some clearance on the D40a now that this is coming out.

A 3 button D40A with raised rubber/silicone buttons would be nice. Rubber buttons for tactile feel when cold or wearing gloves, and there are separate buttons for +/-. Then add an extra mode for infinitely variable dimming that uses those +/- buttons.

Great idea!

The hobby would not be as much fun if there was nothing to mod about a light :-)

The red/blue light might be useful in an urban environment, if you need someone to think there is police presence.

I like this more than the D40A. No battery cage and looks more robust. I think it bears more comparison to 1x18650 P60 lights.

Looks like this light has nice buttons.

Not sure about the red and blue LEDs though. Might have been more useful skipping them and just having a wider reflector.

The battery compartment looks nice. No battery carrier. See how they did it? …. the tailcap contact plate with the springs and contacts is on a pivot. The posts keep it aligned with the body. When the tailcap is screwed in, the tailcap rotates, but that rear contact plate does not. Nice design.
