Are SRM knives pretty much the best budget knives ?

Just checking because thats all I read about pretty much.

Its SRM/Enlan/Navy, in that order?

Is there any other brand of low price quality knives from China? Or SRM models available only in China we dont see because they arent made for export or on English websites?

Here are the websites incase anyone wants to check them out...

http://www.sanrenmu.com/en/

http://www.enlanknives.com/en_aboutus.php

http://www.navyco.com/eshop_list.asp?c_id=2

there is another two brands: tekut and Ganzo

I'm gonzo for my Ganzo G704! Great quality, tough as nails, and one-handed snap open and close.

For smaller pocket knives, SRM gets the nod. They are consistently manufactured to a very high standard, keep a sharp blade and retain tight tolerances after much use. For larger folding knives, the Enlan EL-01 seems to be the best by a rather large margin. Its as if SRM upscaled the size of its smaller knives in producing the EL-01. It even surpasses SRM's larger knives (the now extinct 9 series knives). You'll find that most people with substantial Chinese knife collections have already made the same observations many times over... the EL-01 is really that good.

Navy is a small step down in overall quality however they are among the coolest to own and best value for the money. Still very good knives overall and pleasing to own and play with.

Thanks for the comments to Johnny , FP , and Ash...

I guess that Tekut is a lesser known brand? Ive seen their knives but didnt have much interest in them to order.

And +10000 on the EL01, that knife is amazing, for sure - it sets the benchmark very high for other knives. Very solid and a beauty all around. With my Ganzo704 I was not as lucky so I cant comment favorably on that one, but my sample size is only qty=1 so Im sure others are better.

Not to upset anyone, but of the 2 latest version Ganzo G704's I had recently purchased, they were easily my least favored in quality, fit, and price to value ratio. If you're collecting Chinese knives, its still a must have and very cool to own. The finish is nice however the tolerances are sloppy compared to its competition and the steel does not sharpen well. They also arent that sharp from the factory. The quality simply doesnt compete with SRM/Sanrenmu, Bee/Enlan or Navy.

My Ganzo704 had an issue with blade movement. I told exduct and they just ignored me. Thats Chinese customer service for you... But the 704 looks nice, thats for sure (Thanks to BM/HK!)

I guess I got lucky with Ganzo. Zero play in the blade and fairly sharp out of the box. Not as sharp as my 963 but better construction over all. My SRM 963 has a some verticle play when open. My Ganzo is perfect.

That's like having to choose between all of your children.

It's tough--enlan/bee, navy and ganzo are right up there with

sanrenmu imo.

I think Rare people has head of Shuang Rong (SR)'s knife.

they mainly do OEM knives. theire knives are rare in Chinese Market.

My opinion is : economic knives with good hand work and enough for everyday's use.

Frankly, I have less quality problem with them than with Sanrenmu. for example, I may return 5 knives for every 100pcs to SRM, and for SR, I may just need to return them 2 pcs for every 100pcs

Following is. some pictures of their knives:

SRM's quality for his own brands is getting worse

1) SR 388

2) Mechanical TRANSFORMER series(4 sizes, 2 colors for each size )

3) SR 468

I have some SR knives that I bought from DX before I discovered Sanrenmu. The 218/219 models based on the Spyderco Polliwog are nice, too.

While these are very good budget knives in terms of fit and finish, the biggest question I have is with the steel. They don't keep an edge very long, so I'm guessing the
grade of steel is lower than 8Cr13Mov. Any idea?

I bet they use a low grade steel 420 stainless, or maybe 440a

Hi ashuang0731 - Do you personally inspect each knife when you receive it from the factory?

they usually use 420 or 440 Steel.

but the durability, I have used a lot of one SR2010 for 8 months. It is still ok.

We usually don't check every one when we receive them, but we will check every pcs before we send them to our customers.

don't forget land. i thought it was made by sanrenmu, and i thought enlan was also, but i could be wrong. anyway, land 962 axis lock (granted, i have one really good example, and i am not saying this is the norm) is very similar quality to benchmade grip.

I agree, Land 962 is very well made. My only cons would be that the "spyder"hole is too small and the axis lock is resessed too much, which makes it a bit hard to close the blade.

Land is/was made by SanRenMu

thought so. BEE also, i believe, very high quality as well.

gen1.3_, i completely agree about the spydie hole, but i didn't really notice it until i got a real spydie. i am contemplating modding it into a wave opener.

as far as the lock, i didn't notice that, but the knobs on each side can be screwed in or out.

That would a nice mod, I did a ghetto wave with a zip tie, im sure you've seen it. Thanks for the tip, Ive never noticed the screw now that you mentioned. Thanks dude
