Hi!

j: “Hello all!”
all: “Hello j!”

I have been watching from the shadows for a little while (maybe around a month). Just recently developed the flashlight sickness started getting into flashlights. I have been a knife guy for some while. Then started liking the idea of an EDC flashlight. It has taken off from there. My first light purchase was an Energizer “tactical”. Then I ordered a Xeno E03, followed by a Sipik variant, then a green Ti2, then a copper Maratac AAA (and a AA)…. yeah it is pretty serious! I have yet to receive any of these, lol, although one should be here today (the Xeno)! I also have a SRK on the way.

Why did I finally register?
The Opus BT-C3100 GB is the main reason…. then now I want a D04A too :* (thanks, lol) . As stated, I have a grey SkyRay King (7x CREE XM-L T6) on the way, and when I placed the bid on it I didn’t really realize the 18650 requirement. So after a butt-ton of research (and scaring myself reading all the “dangers” of Li-Ion Batteries), I “settled” on some protected NCR-18650As. Then was about to buy an Intellicharger i4 (*or one of the Fenix ARE-C2/ThruNite MCC-4) when I stumbled upon the C3100.

I think that about sums it up!
One more Hello!

Welcome.

You will be tempted here to spend all your money on flashlights.

Heheheh…you are definitely in the right place! A big howdy to ya from Texas!

Welcome to BLF, jealous57!

Welcome j, there is really no cure for your sickness I'm afraid! For some reason, everyone starts off buying small lights in the beginning. I see you moved up and got a SRK on the way, might as well get that D40A on the way too. It will be one of your best useful lights I'm sure. I have lot's of tiny lights like you ordered, but my favorite of all time is the Olight i3/i3s. Very bright light and looks very good on a keychain. Don't believe me?

Don't stare too hard my friend, as they seem very hard to find now. This little wonder lights up an entire apartment complex at night with a itsy bitsy 10440 battery.

Anyways, as I was saying, your in trouble man. You already know the Opus BT-3100 is the charger to get, so go sign up on that group buy going on for $41. But the sickness gets worse, and the medical treatments really start to add up, and you can try to contain it, but it's light cancer. You start wanting more medicine, more treatment, and the bills really start piling up.

Well that about sums up your welcome!

Once again, welcome j!

Welcome to the club…

@blfdemigod

Yup… I am in trouble…. I also am right on the edge of clicking “Check out with PayPal” on that D40A  … it has been in a shopping cart since last night. I am just not set on the tint. I also am looking at WTS: D40Avn - Compact AA Lumen Monster 4.4A 1480 Lumen | Candle Power Flashlight Forum as it would be roughly the same price to get one premodded as it would be to send him one. Getting one of each is always an option…. :stuck_out_tongue:

I am jealous of your key, blfdemigod. >.<

Thank you Chloe! It's the best house key I have ever had! My 1 year old son loves it!

I would rather have 2 D40A stock flashlights than 1 D40Avn for the same price. An extra 500 lumens is cool, but not when it cost the sam as the light! Like I said, get 2 and use ducktape! 2000 lumens for the same $100 lol.

Welcome to BLF! Hope you enjoy your stay here.

blfdemigod, that UitraFire screw driver, haha.

Which tint you recommend?
I was thinking cool white, only because based on the reviews it seems to be brighter?
The main reason I was considering the “vn” was I was reading it has more throw when it is dedomed. Not that I would really need that much throw but still lol. The extra lumens is just a bonus.

Hey, don't pick on my multi-tool. that thing is built like a freaking tank. And it saved me the other night at a friend house, when they had some coronas. No twist top on those bottles. Guess who had us covered? The UltraFire!

I have come to the conclusion that I will probably only mod one, and just leave the rest stock. 1000 lumens is alot of lumens for most situations. And plus, I prefer having longer runtimes with my flashlights! Honestly, I don't even think the D40A really even needs to be modded one bit! It's almost as if Sunwayman created a perfect multi-AA light!

Welcome!

Welcome to the best flashlight forum online!

I never answered this earlier.
Key chain carry isn’t really an option for me … 19 keys on one is more than enough lol, and I hate anything with my car or bike keys.

I think so too!

Thanks all for the warm welcomes!

Wow, that is a lot of keys!! :open_mouth:

Hello Jealous57.

This is your new family, jealous57!

Welcome aboard. Other than swapping the emitter to the tint of your choice, I wouldn't mod the D40A. It has one of the smoothest beams I can think of. This is probably my most used light. Dedoming it would take away much of the usefulness for me as its as it has the perfect balance of flood and throw for general usage.

I would get the cold tint version with the intent of swapping the emitter. Mine had a xml2 u2 with what I would guess a 1A tint. Great emitter to dedome for a big thrower light. Then buy an xm-l2 in the tint of your choice. Also get a copper base (Noctigon or Sinkpad). Here is a great thread to help you find the emitter you want and the best price. This ansi color chart with Cree tint codes overlaid is from it:
