Interesting arrangement.

Ooh! I may order one of these guys:)

Hey this one looks really cool.. Somebody got it already and can tell something about it?

Soon, I hope... Just ordered it. I have seen something like this before. Isn't that a feature of a Surefire light? Never cared enough to remember any names of these ghastly expensive things...

Very cool. Gotta get one of those!

Just in case there's any confusion over what this is, it's a normal xp-g drop-in with a normal (5mm?) red led stuck on one side of the reflector. On first pass I thought it was a red cree.

That's why I titled the thread 'R5 & Red Led etc'.....and included a pic.

Sure, I just wanted to point it out more explicitly so nobody accidentally orders it thinking they'll get a full power red light. The odd placement hides it a bit in the reflections on the reflector.

This is the same concept as the Photon Proton Pro with regards to a red LED off center with a white main LED.

Thanks, that was the one I meant. Definitely cool to have it as a drop in, it's like a very low "low"-setting, and should have a ultra-long runtime (or so I hope).

It's definitely something different. Mine has ramping for both the higher powered XP-E and for the 5mm red LED. The red one can get so low that you can't tell it's on if you aren't looking directly at it! It's nice for checking the time at night or getting out of a tent (or bed) to go to the bathroom.

Sweet, looks great for a stock 6P. I wonder if the emitter can be swapped relatively easily to a neutral tint??

Damn, that sounds good! I might have to get the real deal after all. Aaw man, my poor wallet!

How is the ramping regulated? Current controlled, or does it flicker when it's on low? Can't stand low PWM-frequencies.

Well.. spend to much money last 10 Days :D - Maybe someone want to test it and give feedback? :)

I don't know how it is controlled. Either I'm not sensitive to PWM or it's got a high enough frequency or it's current controlled because I've noticed no flickering.

I think it's current controlled but I can't say for sure. You can also use it in Morse Code mode if you know Morse Code :)

I have a Proton Pro too. Nice light, just don't use it much since the white always starts on high. Good to turn on an uber low red though.

I would think it has to be PWM based like any other ramping engine. I don't notice flickering, but I'm not super sensitive to it.

I'm really interested in the drop in. If I could swap to a neutral tint, this might be the real trick for my stock 6p.

It looks like Shao has received one of these. This is really interesting IMO.

Just got mine. Really digging it in a stock 6p. The beams aren’t the prettiest, but the tint is good and the brightness levels are good. Seem like a great bedside light if not used elsewhere.

Green http://www.manafont.com/product_info.php/integrated-cree-r5-led-and-green-led-memory-dropin-module-4218v-p-7668

Cool green might be neat. Never found any real use for blue, hurts my eyes in the dark.
