How to post a pic where you WANT it?

Hi everyone! I'm new here. Wanted to put up a review of my XTAR WK42 I recently purchased. Problem is I can't get pics to post where I want them posted within my post. I can get the pics to show up, no problem. The problem is every pic wants to attach above everything else in my post and not where it needs to be within the post in relation to what I'm saying about the pic.

Yes, I've already read 3 full threads on posting pics, but I can't find a single one that spells out how to get the pic in the post where you actually want it. I figured the pic would simply post where I last left my cursor. It doesn't. My pics just keep posting at the top of my post, no matter how many I try to post.

I'm sure the solution is super simple! For whatever reason I just can't figure it out.

I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1

Post an example of this behavior here please.

Use the simple post editor, selected where it says input format, between the reply text box and the preview/save buttons. Same O.S.- pics insert where cursor is.

The only way that could happen is if the cursor is moving when or before you click the [ Insert Image ] button. Can you check that, by observing the flashing cursor as you begin to click the button?

If all else fails, you should notice the code it enters… Just CUT all that to the clipboard & Paste it back where you want it.

I use a Notepad .txt file to keep things in when/if I need more than one cut/paste operation…

HTH.

-Enter advance editing mode under "Input Format" just above the save/preview buttons. -Type what you want to type. When you want to put a picture in, press enter or place the cursor where you want the picture to go. -Find the image you want to post. Ideally it should be on an image hosting site like imgur/photobucket/flickr etc. Right click on the image and click copy -Paste into your post with CTRL V. The image will be pasted wherever the cursor is

If you want to keep typing under an image, easy way is to press CTRL END (which takes you to the last point after the image) and then ENTER a few times and type under it.

… than the instructional thread, as you no-doubt have figured out. Maybe we can both go clean up that other thread now?

Good onya for that! I still say you’re losing control of your cursor somehow.

Also, please be sure to delete your experiment, to keep the other thread clean, or at least edit it to answer your own question for Posterity.

Just thinking of the people, like yourself, who will read the other thread in the future… (and yes, I will delete my post there after you delete yours, for the same reason)

Did you mean to use “img width=”10%” for this one? That’s going to make it awfully hard to see!

Have you tried using Cut & Paste to move the img code (including the angle-brackets) to wherever you want the picture to appear?

EDIT: I also notice, when Quoting your post, there are an awful lot of “percent twentys” (the percent character and the number 20. which the middleware won’t let me just put in here) where spaces should be.

Maybe your browser is dorquing up everything you try to do with it, i.e. IE…

That's the 1st thing I'll go do now if I can figure out how to delete that post.

I believe you are correct. The strange part of that to me is I've posted on other forums for many years now and never have had an issue. I still think you are correct though.

This is the same thread you mentioned at the beginning of this post?

Yes, or some small percent just to see what I would get, because IIRC when I tried 75% and 50% it didn't seem as though either did anything. So I went to see what would happen going to a very low % and all of a sudden the pic was really tiny like you're showing here. It was a practice/trial/error thing and I certainly don't plan on posting pics that small.

Ummm......Okay, 1st I'm using PhotoBucket as a host for the pictures. 2nd, I'm using what PhotoBucket refers to as a direct link for 2 reasons (people in other help threads said I needed to and the img code is what I first tried to use when attempting to post pics and it didn't work here). 3rd, whatever you mean by "percent twentys" is over my head as to what you're even referring to (code?, like in the direct links I'm getting from PhotoBucket maybe, which would be my best guess at what you're referring to?).

Quick question before I leave here go delete my post in the stickied help topic; What do I do in advanced mode to get the cursor to stop double-spacing every time I hit the return/enter key? (I want single-spacing.)

I will be doing some practice in this thread shortly.

Not sure why I should have to? Other than simply to see if it changes anything?

That's more/less what I've always done in other forums I frequent (All other forums I've frequented have accepted img code.). The difference is at the picture host PhotoBucket I use, I'm offered a handful of different choices of code to use, partially including what they call direct link, url, html, img,... Each choice is available from it's own constrained line window (don't know what else to call it) where you simply put your mouse over the one you want and simple click on it after which is says copied. And from there you simply paste your chosen link/code where you want it appropriately for a picture to post.

Is there reasoning for using cut vs copy? PhotoBucket won't allow me to cut. I'll try something like notepad if all else fails.

+1 So far I've attempted all that to a "T".

Never done that or known about CTRL V. I will try that.

Never knew of CTRL END either. I'll attempt that too.

The thing about ENTER I'm trying to end is the automatic double spacing with each key press of ENTER. How do you get it to single space only?

Can anyone tell I'm very limited in my Word Processing know how? LOL

How do you do CTRL END? I don't have an END key.

I'll type here and attempt putting an image below this type.

Hmmm, that worked. I ended up simply right clicking on the actual photo itself (after half a dozen attempts other ways) in photobucket and pasting it here where I wanted it. I think I'll end at that.

Why I'm loosing control of my cursor otherwise, I don't know. I've posted many many many pics in other forums before just copy/pasting img code where I wanted it. Always worked flawlessly. Is this forum set up different for a reason? I guess it doesn't matter as I can't even get the tree icon picture posting thingy to work for me here as it seems to for everyone else.

I appreciate everyone's help! TYVM! Since I've found something that is working for me I'll just go with it. Certainly feel free to add any other advice. Now I'll go attempt my XTAR WK42 (in the CR123A subforum) review.

PS - it seems the only way I can insert emoticons is to directly copy/paste their image too. At least without them simply ending up at the top of my whole post every time. Why I'm loosing cursor control on this forum I have no idea.

I had to change my compatibility settings .

Part of your problem may be that you are trying to use img code. img code does not work on this forum. This forum requires that you use a direct link.

It’s the HTML code for the Space Character, when used in URLs. Probably not Photobucket’s fault (this time), but it’s possible.

You’re getting so much of this right, I don’t want to appear to “talk down” to you! But I still suspect you’re using IE, which has so many problems of its own (as opposed to, say, the scratchy-pad on a laptop causing it), that could be all you need to “fix”…

Sorry I got confused. You’re doing just fine, but I need to remind myself to scroll up to the top of the “Reply to comment” pages more often…

I’m late for work, so I promise a more-useful reply; but I wanted to reiterate the tip about Notepad. As Yogi Berra said, “You can observe a lot, just by watching”. What text you see in Notepad is what the middleware here will parse for you, so that’s my two cents for now…

Oh, and I never have used Advanced Mode.

It’s to keep from duplicating whatever you’re working on, that’s all. Beats selecting all of it all over again and deleting it. Think of “cut-paste” as a “Move” and “copy-paste” as a “Rubberstamp”…

I never use Photobucket (as you have read here, they can be a real PITA), but I think I understand how they stuff the (URL) link you click on into your Clipboard… So it’s possible they’re the ones stuffing you with the “%20” characters I saw which made your 2nd image not show up at all.

EDIT: PS: the “img code” I mentioned was the < img _ > code created by THIS middleware when you click the [ Insert Image ] button above your text entry box. Keep using the actual URL of the image in that dialog. PPS: Please don’t forget the size specification? “100%” means the rest of us don’t have to scroll back & forth to see your image… Not that you’re having a problem with that, except for that last picture you posted (in the correct place, I see), but just sayin…

I use photobucket and the direct link with both iPad and iPhone and it works fine pasting the link into the image popup window and setting size to 100%. I also paragraph(double line space p.) between images and text. The advanced editor is nice if you want sided by side images or collage style grouping. When in doubt use the preview button before saving the post to a thread. I do this frequently to see if things like bold and line through appear as they should. Changes in the formatting of image links can cause the link text to appear instead of the image. You see this most often when quoting posts using the simple text editor but occasionally I have to go back and add the line return that is supposed to occur after the (!) at the beginning of the link text. The more I understand about how things work the better I can handle situations and improve my posts but still a long way to go and more things to learn than I can count. Keep reading and trying new things as good ideas come from unlikely sources.

SmileI have the same exact problem with pics - everyone goes to the beginning of the post. I think on 1 computer I use, it didn't happen. I used the same exact method in the past and it used to work fine - always posted at the cursor, now never posts at the cursor. Think it was an IE upgrade that broke it. Also the emotion icons only appear at the start of the post, never at the cursor - this also used to work properly. Everytime I have to cut and paste where I want it - never appears at the cursor (see smiley at the start of this post)...

Skeeterwx -- you are not alone!!!

Can someone tell me how to fix the emotion icon inserting, then I believe pic inserting will follow suite? This is very frustrating....

** I'm using IE 11.0 on Win 7.

Solution:: Yes, "Compatibility View Settings" on the IE tool menu, add budgetlightforum.com to the list, then wow!! It works!! Smile

Thanx jacktheclipper !!
