Brightest White 5mm LED in 2014 ?

I want to mod a few button key chain lights by replacing the white 5mm led they use.

What is the current brightest white 5mm LED that is easily available to purchase as an upgrade for these type of light.

I know about 2 years ago the Nichia 5mm NSDW570GS was a good upgrade is there anything brighter or more efficient now?

Also whats the best sort of viewing angle for this type of light.

I bet that there are some Chinese companies that will sell you some 1000 lumen ones for cheap… :party: And don’t forget to pick up some 10,000 mAh 18650 cells while you are at it…

Surprised there is not any brighter or more efficient 5mm ones in 2014 the 36.5 lumen GS has been available for approx 2 years.

As 5mm LED’s seem to be in everything now, even my drill/driver has one although its really poor.

I had no idea there were 5mm LED's that good!

Cree does 5mm which is just as bright as the GS at 20mA. Well, maybe a bit under but less of that purple blue. It is also a much prettier beam instead of the odd shaped one you get from the GS.

I think the Nichia HS lets you do 40mA continuous but not going to help you much if all the replacements you are going to make will be based on 20mA.
