Gearbest 6 x XM-L 3 mode bicycle light giveaway ( WORLDWIDE now )

It happened I've got slightly different light as I should and with Gearbest we agreed to arrange the giveaway.

The light is like this one -> Will post some pictures later on.

My wish is someone who gets this light is capable improving it by changing stock driver with this one -> . I will provide DX driver along and the winner should make (at least brief) review of the light. It is not simple task as it involves some lathe work for the new driver to fit. Stock driver is smaller diameter than 28mm replacement. Leds are connected serially (6S1P) and the light is powered by any 8.4V battery pack (tipicaly 2S2P or 3S2P connected 18650 cells) with 5.5x2.1mm plug. It would be nice if the modder can measure input voltage and the current.

I could do most of the mod by myself, but will do it on some other similar one so I'm giving this one away.

Rules for participant:

- is from EU or Central Europe countries (because shipping issues)

- became member of BLF before 13th August 2014

- can do driver change and will do brief review of the stock and moded light

- one post per member and notice if he is the MTB or any other type of cyclist

- the winner will be choosen by random.org.

- giveaway will close on 24th Aug, CET.

Preferably but not exclusive the winner is a MTB cyclist who might use the light for night riding or anyone who will pass it to the one who would use it that way. We will discuss with the winner about the battery pack to be included or not (weight and capacity issues). The shipping will be free to worldwide. the EU region and Central Europe countries.

You may ask questions via PM if you like and I will publish relevant answers in post #1 so the others can get some detail info.

I wish you all good luck.

Edit: Added Q&A section in post #1

Edit2: Got permission to ship worldwide

Edit3: Added pictures of the drivers in post #1

Edit4: Added pictures of the voltage and currents at off/hi/low mode

Q&A

Q: Won't 6 XM-L's in series present a Vf of ~18v? That driver says it's output is 3.3~10v. Am I missing something? (again )

A: It's DX description you realize that, don't you? Please read driver reviews and discussions under product description.

Q: How much would it cost in $$ (USD) , If you were shipping this light to the USA ?

A: Some sort of registered (non tracking) mail would be about 10 EUR ie. about $13.

Without battery pack it would be 7 EUR or $9.1

I do not own a lathe (but my neighbor does)
I am from Austria
Joined: 03/19/2014
I did driver changes and some reviews
I own a Trek 6300 and a Lapierre Zesty

I maybe get my first bike light?

Hey, thnx for the giveaway, I'm in!

I gave my Silverback MTB to my brother in law who is still a student and who enjoys mountain biking a lot more than I have time for. I would love to mod and give him this light as well, to "open" his eyes towards proper lights.

I don't have a lathe, but lots of friends with lots of tools :)

Cool idea for a giveaway. I'd like to see more giveaways of nicer items require the recipient to give back to the community in ways like this.

I've added some pictures of the stock and replacement driver in the post #1

Yeah, I also think it was a good thing to extend the Bike Light Giveaway

to a worldwide basis. Good deal ledoman !! 8)

I mod all my flashlights for recumbent bicycles.
I would love to have the opportunity to mod this one.

I am more than willing to document the entire build.

Thanks for the giveaway. I’d love to be in, I practise nighttime mtb, with a variety of flashlights depending on the situation, but unfortunately I don’t have access to a lathe. So good luck you machinist bikers!

i am in,nice gift will be great for my bike, thanks for the giveaway.i can replace the driver unless it requires special tools to open the flashlight.

I’m in France, even if it doesn’t matter any more.

Check

- can do driver change and will do brief review of the stock and moded light
I’m an electronics engineer so no problem for electronics but I’m not a mechanical engineer… I have basic skills though and know people that have a lathe.
I can do a quick review. I already did reviews you can check here and here

I do practice Mountain Bike. Here are my two bikes:

I only go MTB during the day but I’ve been thinking about riding at night for quite some time. As you can see my bikes lack some lumens for that though.

Overall I would be more than happy to get and review that light!

I am a regular Mountain Biker and I, together with my two sons, usually ride at night. Each of our bikes have SolarStorm X2 bike lights installed. Since I’m into modding, I replaced the emitters in my X2 with XM-L2 T6 3Bs because I like a warmer tint. I also modified the MCPCBs like this:

However the X2’s throw is limited and I can’t see far enough when riding in a highway at night so I added a SingFire SF90 beside it. The X2 now serves as my Low Beam and the SF90, which I modified with a dedomed XM-L2 T6 1B on modded MCPCB, is now my High Beam, and my bike now looks like this:

If I win that bike light I think I could have both high beam and low beam because I’m planning on dedoming the LEDs for throw (aside from the driver change that you wish). The 6 LED set-up would automatically cause a wide bright spill even with dedomed LEDs.

Please do count me in!

Pushing this thread up a bit.....

When you post ” Pushing this thread up “. What’s your meaning

for that :quest:

It is to shows up higher on the list of the recent posts. It's meaning is to remind members of this giveaway. ;-)

Ok, now that makes the meaning a little clearer to me.

I ride a mountain bike occasionally. Don't have a lathe, but haven't met a light I couldn't modify with my drill press and imagination. Thank you for the opportunity ledoman and GearBest.

ImA4Wheelr, so you think you could mod it with drill press and I should count you in? You might be right.

There you'll have to drill two step ring. The outer to fit diameter of the new driver (ie. 28mm) and the second deeper with about 26mm dia so the elements from the circuit would take a place. Hope you understand what I mean.

I can. I've done stuff like that plenty of times. Just make a jig for the head so that it can be rotated against a high speed cutting and/or an end mill bit. There are other ways as well.
