I use my i3s with a 10440 all the time. It gets hot after less than a minute, but it does have that minute of super output which is usually plenty.
Only way I would switch to a different light would be great price for close to same, or features specific to using a 10440 like low voltage protection or over heating protection.
Sorry I missed the question, but yes, I just tried and the Ti3 can indeed use a 10440, just like its counterpart, the I3S. I also updated my review to reflect this fact. Everything works normally except the medium and high kind of blend together. But it’s pure beast mode on high—more output than the I3S.
I've been using one in my original i3 for awhile now with no issues other than rapid heat rise on high. It's great for short term use. Oh yeah, it's significantly brighter than using AAA's
Maybe this could use some side by side comparison, how bright and how soon to heat up. Seems like a broad range where its half a dozen of one, six of the other.
All these 1xAAA light work with a 10440, they just go DD on them, so most also have more or less the same output, around 300lm.
But more special is that this light achieves 120 lumens on a single AAA! That is one hell of a good boost driver! The modes and spacing sound very good and I like the styling as well :-)
