Theres the guy that told me i "MUST BUY" this emitter: CREE XP-G 4B Neutral White R4

His name may have rhymed with "Boaz" i think.

CREE XP-G 4B Neutral White R4 LED Star SKU: S009864

http://kaidomain.com/ProductDetails.aspx?ProductId=11117

I have it now, But no idea what light to put it in, Mainly im holding off for some drivers i ordered that can actually push an XP-G past 1A before i pick a light to put it in. Even got the Arctic Alumina thermal adhesive and compound and real .016 sheet aluminum and copper on the way for heatsinking as i have 3x MF XM-L T6 3A drop-ins coming also. So ill have lots of pulls to mod. :)

Ill be honest, If someone tells me to buy something i will. But im not so sure ill like this emitter to much as i prefer the cool whites and high tints, But im a noob so what do i know. Plus i haven't been able to get almost any of my lights outside to play with yet.

So my question is this, What body type or reflector size and how many amps would you run threw it to make it the perfect emitter it "CAN BE"?

I have a bunch of host coming and a few here that run P60's that are non XM-L with new drivers that will push 1.5A and old ones that push 1A. Im just not sure what the best reflector would be to match this emitter.

Empty hosts in the mail=(WF-504B, WF-501A, WF-501B, Solarforce L2T,) These i have on hand. Solarforce L2r w/R5, Olight M20s w/R5, Small Sun ZY-A21 with a modded P60 R5 i put in it.

Preferably id like to mount the emitter in a P60 and never remove it due to hassle and possible damage, So id like to get it right the first time.

Also if you would like to explain why ill like this emitter and its strong points it would go a long way in making me appreciating it and maybe ill even thank Boaz for his recommendation.

I put a 1C into a ITP A1 , and thats warm enough ... [ For Me ] XP-G R5

Ive been doing the driver dance myself, Not only in ordering the new ones. But figuring out the ones i have and how they react to different voltages. All of my current XP-G lights are all underdriven and when they go above 4.2v and use 6v input drivers they suck at max charge until the boost circuit kicks in. So im hoping the new drivers will push that up .5A's

The star on this R4 emitter is smaller, But i can do thermal work like a pro with some past PC experience. Finally something in the flashlight world i have experience in and can do well. So im not afraid to run some hot XM-L's at 3A if i can get the host just right even if it is small.

I have a SR G6 that hopefully will be here this week, But i dont want to go modding it.

Im guessing from what i read the R4 is great for outdoor colors realism and throw, And that Small Sun i have has a really deep reflector which i think would make that work to its advantage and still have some spill. Plus it being a 4x AA NiMH and 2x 14500 which i haven't tried yet as the light isn't made for a P60 and i modded the pill to accept one as i couldn't find a driver board to fit the pill. I think ive been waiting to try it when my new drop-ins arrive as it drives me nuts to have broken items i cant use. But i do like that i can use 4x AA Eneloops for some serious long run times or even my PowereX 2700's.

Thats another thing, Im almost afraid that if i dont like it that swapping it out will be a PITA. But i could just set the emitter on Ceramique and not use adhesive and make sure its tight just to test it could be a good route.

I mean i cant go wrong with having spare parts on hand if i dont like it.

Now i want to try the 2x 14500 in the Small Sun, I just hope my thermal work was good!

you won't be dissapointed by the r4 4b ;) I love it and now want all my lights to be neutral white (for outdoors)

What kind of hand-bag do you recommend for a 40 year old guy who is 6'4" 270lbs with a flat-top and covered in tattoo's?

I have a cheap Q5 drop-in coming and i can gut it and put the R4 on it and a 1.54A driver and can swap it into hosts and see which i prefer. I just hope it dont seem to yellowish of a tint.

I agree that XP-G r5 is nice for biking, but recently ive been using an XM-L at medium setting with OP reflector in p60 hosts (would prefer it running at 1,4a tough) sucessfully. Who says that XM-L's must be driven at 3A anyway? :)

For 7usd per XM-L i can hardly buy a R5 nowadays.

Guess who got boaz into neutrals? hehe

Ive moved on from the KD "neutral" now. I started with one, then the day after installing into a torch, I ordered another 6! (only had like 8 torches at the time). Now I've used my last one, I'm really digging the one and only 5C tint I have. It makes the 4B look green/cool and relatively less awesome.

Im thinking of ordering a few more from cutter, along with neutral XM-L (also a beautiful 5 tint)

I've seen this statement many times and often it turns out the person haven't even seen a neutral light. :)

When I show my lights to people almost all prefer the warmer tints and even say they are brighter even though the warm light have a lower bin and should be couple of lumens darker.

I promise you'll love it.

Agreed... Ive found many comments abroad even though they havent even seen a true 5 bin neutral tint.

" I prefer neutral whites " - Which actually refers to preferring tints that are not green or pink etc...

" I find this tint more neutral than my other torch " - in reference to two cool white torches, one being slightly less blue, but still very blue/cool.

" Neutral LEDs produce light that is way too brown... I like snowy white instead " - a common conclusion from beamshots, which cannot capture the light quality which the eye perceives.

I would say a guy like that could carry any handbag he wanted and no one would tell him he’s wrong for it. Now put that guy in high heels and I think I’d have to laugh at him.

I cant afford the disposable razors it takes to keep my legs shaved to wear high heels. BTW, That was a response to a spammer selling womens clothing that got deleted right after i posted the reply.

I say that as most of my lights have only been used indoors and during a power outage where the cooler colors stand out more. But if i do buy more emitters they most likley will be XM-L's due to the characteristics mentioned above, Unless i know i want a thrower.

Neutrals are unbeatable when the world is covered in snow. Colds may be brighter but they make everything look flat and gray, turning the world into a gray low contrast landscape. Give me a 3, 4, 5 or 6-bin neutral and I'm a happy camper : )

I like the KD neutral XP-G. It's not really yellow, just a lot less blue than cool whites (still a little blue I think). And the 16mm base will go in just about anything. I've put them in P60's, my AKOray K-106, and my Ultrafire X1 (like a 18650 version of the K-106). So I'm driving them anywhere from about 800mA (the K-106) to 1.4A. They will put out more light with the same driver than an XR-E, but you lose some throw, so they are great for any cheap XR-E Q5 light you buy where you want more oomph, even if you don't swap the driver.
