I've had this cheapo fleabay ($5) halogen bike light for some time before I knew anything about lights hoping for a good deal. When I received it and looked at the beam I was so disappointed in the output, but I didn't wanna just scrap it.
I disassembled the light and found out the bulb is replaceable and I figured I could stick a decent LED bulb in there, but I can't for the life of me figure out what the size is. I KNOW it is a size I've seen before, but I don't know which!
The light runs on two AA/14500 sized batteries, direct connect to the bulb, and is just an on-off mode.
Hmmm? That looks like a standard flashlight bulb with a plastic sleeve around the base. Or is it a larger size? What's the stamping under the sleeve say?
If that's what it is, you might could swap in something like this:
Unfortunately it says nothing under the sleeve. I will probably be underwhelmed if I did any upgrades though, but going from rock bottom to somewhat above it is better than nothing. ;) I might check the hardware store if they have anything this size, but I can have my doubts.
As for the C8, I think I have plenty of options for handlebar lights
Just wanted to see what I could get out of this pre-enlightened purchase.
dorcy makes a 2 cell led dropin, ~30lms, for about $5, requires no heatsinking whatsoever. I have a ton of them, and they have given many a light a new lease on life. They also make a 3-4 cell version, FWIW.
For future reference this light would blow if it had two 14500s in it, so I would simply say “two AA sized batteries”.
check the dorcydirect.com site for those PR2 replacements, both 2-cell and 3-6cell versions.
They almost always have some special discount/free postage deal if you email and ask.
