SOLD! Uniquefire UF-1405 - De-domed XM-L2 U2 1D Noctigon, Zooming, Modded - Australia Only

Hi All,

I am wanting to sell my Uniquefire UF-1405 which I received recently. It was used for about 30 seconds in stock form and has been used for about 2 minutes since modded to check everything. It is essentially a brand new light + the mods.

Mods I have done are as follows:

  • Replaced emitter with a de-domed XM-L2 U2 1D on a Noctigon from IOS
  • Cleaned off the old Fujik type glue and replaced it with some Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste
  • Added an R100 sense resistor in parallel with the standard R120
  • Upgraded driver -> LED wires with 22AWG silicone wire from IOS
  • Added Chemtools copper braid to driver and tailcap springs
  • Blacked out face of pill with matte black VHT exhaust manifold paint (cleans up the beam as there are less reflections)
  • Modded the switch assembly as the standard setup was probably one of the worst set ups I have seen with lots of resistance and very poor contacts! (Details are in the main UF-1405 thread)
  • Replaced tailcap boot with a GITD Blue one (can change to black or GITD green if you prefer)
  • Replaced the bezel oring with a brand new one as the standard one was brittle and fell apart like everyone else’s seems to be doing
  • Replaced the oring which seals the head onto the body with a thicker one which makes the zoom action feel firmer
  • Lubricated all threads in bezel, zooming section and tailcap with Armytek Nyogel lubricant

The light runs on two 26650s and I have tried Protected Trustfire Flames and MNKE IMR26650s and both fit fine.

It has the standard UI which is H-M-L-Strobe-SOS. I measured ~2.25-2.30A at the tailcap which (correct me if I’m wrong) should mean about 3.80-4.00A at the emitter with driver losses.

Price - $60AUD Shipped to metro areas in AUS. Bank transfer would be good as there are no fees, but if you want to use PayPal that’s fine.

I think this price is fair given just the emitter and light on their own are almost $50 with the current exchange rate plus all the other bits and pieces which have been done.

Now some beamshots. The focused shots are a little brighter than in real life. However I have thrown a beamshot of a fully modded TN31 at the end as a comparison…

TN31 Beamshot Below for Comparison…

Those are great upgrades, it makes the light so much better! It is almost exactly how I'm going to mod mine (except that I use a dedomed Xp-G2). The price is great too. Why are you selling it?

How well does it focus zoomed in? Pic?

The zoom has enough adjustment to go just past fully focused. So you are able to perfectly see the die. I will get some pics tonight if the rain stops.

I must admit the mods have completely transformed the light and I am pretty happy with how it has turned out. I did think about de-doming the emitter, however my original plan was to fit an MT-G2 in this light so when I received it I stripped it all down, modded the switch, replaced orings, cleaned all the components etc. and then left it aside whilst I was waiting for some other bits to arrive. Whilst I was waiting I decided that the Jax zoomy would be a better candidate for an MT-G2. So, I read up about the driver in this light, did the resistor mod and fitted the XP-G2 that I had just received for another project. Having not de-domed a 3C tint before I didn’t want to take the risk of it turning out a bad colour and then having to wait another few weeks for another emitter to arrive.

Honestly, if this doesn’t sell at this price I will just hang on to it… I just figured I only really needed one zoomy so if I was going to get the Jax then someone else might be able to find a good use for this one rather than having it sitting on my shelf gathering dust.

To anyone interested in this light I have put this sale on hold temporarily whilst I make some changes. See the OP for details.

Do you think you might end up modding one of these in the future?

That link doesn’t seem to work for me, I have found CNQG website is playing up a bit recently.

However if it is the Jax Z1, then yes. I am actually selling this light because I am getting the Z1 and don’t feel the need for two large zoomy lights. I will be using an MT-G2 which I already have and I have a zener modded BLF17DD on the way for it. I will start a new thread on that light when everything starts arriving

It is the Jax Z1, and I’m hanging to see what you modders can do with it as I don’t own a decent zoomie.
Edit: and yep, the cnqg webiste is all over the place at the moment.

This light is back up for sale again. Mods have been completed as you can see in the pictures and it performs even better than before!

Any questions, just ask me.

Cheers

Pm sent

I haven’t received anything?

Odd. I sent a test. Anyway wasn’t sure if this was better in pm- can I come and pick up the light for $50 ?

Sold pending pick up.
Cheers.

Hi LSX. May I ask how exactly you applied the matt black paint / spray to get it so smooth and cleanly done? Thanks.

Gday shrick, I gave the parts a light sand with some 1200 grit paper and cleaned all the parts with some thinners. Then assembled the pill along with the centering ring and just did a number of light coats with the spray can. Then I hit it with a hot air gun and then carefully took the retaining ring out so I could install the emitter. The trick was to not touch it with my fingers after it had dried because it was soo matte that fingerprints would show up on it.

This is the stuff I used, in flat black… https://www.vhtpaint.com/products/flameproof/

Ok, great, got it. Thanks for the feedback, lots appreciated

I like your work, its very neat and precise.

I have a 1504 which I’ve coated with a matt black high heat, what they call an ‘edge primer’, paint. It came out ok, not as well as yours though, my surface is not as smooth and even. I’m definitely going to try your method, using high heat matt black exhaust spray rather than paint. I think I have seen the VHT brand in the shops.

I still sit with a problem though… after painting all matt black, I still had this ring on the outside of the LED die when zoomed in (max throw). I eventually took out the metal retaining ring and just painted the noctigon and all matt black. This definitely helped to almost get rid of that ring I’m talking about, but there is still faint evidence of it, but much better.

I must also say that your ‘matt’ looks more ‘matt’ than mine. Mine is not shiny, but it seems to almost be in between yours and gloss black. So, this might be my problem, not sure. Did you experience any form of rings when fully zoomed in (max throw). I believe the ring I see when fully zoomed in is caused by that metal retaining ring, but, its strange that my matt black paint did not take it away. Maybe its just because my black is not matt enough
