Review on the Pioneer C8 from Banggood

My rating is 4 out of 5 stars

This C8 came from Banggood. for review and giveaway.

The price is $23.99 USD

I'm just going to give you the highlights here. First of all, it's a C8. I just don't like the looks of a C8, never have. They are ugly. I also have never liked the quality of them. They have always been poorly made.

This one has changed my thoughts. It is very well made, with lubed square threads, double O rings and a great finish. I was really impressed on how well this light was made. It has a milled in LED shelf, instead of an insert and the LED star is even screwed down. It has an OP Aluminum reflector and a coated glass lens. Everything was well made and fit well. The lanyard is very heavy and I doubt you could ever tear it off the light. It even feels heavier than the other C8s I have tried. I was totally shocked by all this and I think it's the best made C8 I have ever tried.

Now for the bad side. The driver did not work as described. I got one mode only, not three. EDIT: I played around with it and got a high/low mode, by a very rapid clicking of the switch and I got a strobe by three very rapid clicks of the switch.. Just high mode and that was only 2 amps. I was not happy about that, but when you think of C8, you think of mod immediately, so just change out the driver and go for 4-5 amps.

Even with the driver issue, I still have to rate it 4 stars, just for the excellent fit, finish and construction. It might be a good GB light.

Thanks to Banggood and the giveaway will be up in a day or so.

Thanks for the review!!

Should be interesting a GB on this as a host only. I have seen the same but different brand C8s again and again and again over 5 years. But this one stands out from the rest.

Can you measure the thickness of the LED shelf?

I really don't have a way to. I can only guesstimate, but to me, the important fact is that it's part of the head, so heat transfer will be much better than a pill. I would guess at about 1.5-2mm thick.

Someone else needs to do the GB thing though. I got too much else going on right now with the Maglite stuff.

I like the matte-anodizing finish and OP reflector on this C8. It looks to be better built than the many “other” C8 lights.

GB on host only would be nice!

+1

A C8 without a pill? Hallelujah!!

Those chunky threads look real nice as well.

17mm driver?

BG states "Note:Do not use battery with protection."

Did you get any indication why they are saying this? Is it a fit issue?

Thanks for the review!

I can see there are more good quality C8s coming like the new Convoy C8 and this. Maybe there are still the others but I can’t remember. Regardless of the price the XinTD C8 is still the best C8 in my book, but it doesn’t have square threads and driver retaining ring. Maybe they should come out the V6 soon or later to stay at the top.

This Pioneer C8 costs $24, while the revised Convoy C8 is $17 with Nanjg 105C driver and everything else similar… I would still go for the Convoy C8 for the price.

Thank you OL for the review.

GB would be nice, i would probably go both host and full light. thanks for the review OL.

Could it be that your sample is in a single mode group setting? You might give it a shot and see if you can change the group.

Thanks for this review, looks like a very nice viable C8 option and it's great to see they're listening. Might have to pick one up for comparison purposes, and, well, you know, hot rodding. :D

Operation:
1.Shift:
a.Common mode:Turn on the flashlight,Half-press the switch one time.
b.The second mode:Successive half-press the switch twice.
c.The third mode:Successive half-press the switch three times.

2.Electrodeless dimming(Common mode and second mode):
a.When the flashlight enter into common mode,half-press switch 5 times to enter into electrodeless dimming, flashlight brightness will changes from low to high.
b.In electrodeless dimming cycle, at any time by a half-press the switch on time,it will save the current brightness.

3.Third mode:
a.When the flashlight enter into third mode,half-press switch 5 times to enter into function selection mode, flashlight brightness will changes from Low-High-Strobe-Beacon-Slow-flash.
b.At any time by a half-press the switch on time,it will save the current brightness.

Is that a deep-reflector C8 or a standard depth?

I don’t have any protected cells, but I am just about sure a protected button top would not fit. Possibly a flat top protected cell, but it would be a tight fit.

I played around with it and got a high/low mode, by a very rapid clicking of the switch and I got a strobe by three very rapid clicks of the switch.

Old love the threads, nice and square but lens does not look coated.

Thanks for the review. Can you recommend any drivers to get 4-5 amps for one of these?

I felt it looked coated one side. It does not look like it has no coating, when turning it in the light, but I will not swear to it… I swear too much as it is.

I would think many people use the new BLF 17 DD driver that has a FET. I imagine that might be one of the best, also a nanjg with extra chips might work. It appears to be a 17mm driver, from what I quickly measured.

Looks to be the same as the new convoy C8 with the emitter shelf and the square threads at the tail

Could be. I don’t have a Convoy, so I can’t tell for sure. I really don’t like the C8 format, but I know lots of people do.
