I should have clarified, I am actually picking up 14 channels total. I was just referring to the 4 major OTA networks (ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC), out of which I pick up 3.
Thanks Pete… even better news!! Wink

Vipon has several Lux Pro lights for $5. I ordered them for Christmas gifts next year. Great gifting lights for parents and older people who only run alkaline batteries.

It is… if they have at least 80% of the possible charge…
Trying to figure out how I can test the capacity with the chargers I have.. Not usually trying to test primary batteries.

What chargers do you have?

Opus 3100, for example, has a pure discharge mode which you could use for this purpose.

I do have an Opus (3400 which is the same as the 3100 v2). The discharge cuts off at 2.8V which doesnt do much when I’m testing for capacity on a primary lithium cell. A primary lithium will drop to that level after a VERY short period of time. The discharge is modeled for a Lithium Ion which makes sense.

Unless I’m mistaken, there is no way to set continuous discharge to obtain full capacity.

Do it the old fashion way, use a light with 1 amp draw and time it.

Got a coupon code from Vipon for the 16 and 20 count and think I spent less than $10 with the 10% off coupon. Got them and I don’t even have a dedicated cr123 light. Might sell them to my boss since he has a couple of Surefire lights that take them.

And the light is still usable at such diminished voltage?

What if you use a very low discharge current, such as 100 mA? Will it still drop to 2.8V after a very short period of time?

I have a RC hobby charger, if anyone could tell me a reasonable or industry standard for current and cutoff voltage I am willing to test one to know the true capacity…

Its my understanding its standard for a CR123a.

Take a look at the discharge curve on this review:

http://budgetlightforum.com/node/24985

It shows the drop to ~2.75 for the bulk of the test.

Putting a light on it would give me some time values— but to be honest it would be impossible to determine capacity from a test like that.

It’s rated at 1,450mAh and .5a discharge rate is about .3c will be good enough, as to cut-off voltage I would personally choose 2.8v since a lot of members has the Opus and it cuts off at 2.8v too, that way there can be a bit of ‘standardization’, so to speak.

I am curious to know too, since I also ordered a pack of 20.

Thanks for the link decypher

I am thinking a 500 ma discharge and a cutoff at 1.8v as he did, I am scheduled to receive them tomorrow, will test 1 and see how it goes, hopefully it will be a good battery

My MH20/MH20GT can take a pair of ‘em, but with the caveat that you won’t get full turbo out of it when using ’123s.

The SP32Av2 can similarly take a pair of ’123s, but don’t recall if its highest setting is also limited.

At least that’s what I’m planning to use ‘em for.

I busted out my hobby charger. Didnt think of that route earlier until someone mentioned it.

I ran one through at 500ma. A bit off of the 1450mah spec’d for the batteries if you consider working voltage — but to 0 it meets expectations. I expected it to be less… For the price and my expected application, I’m good with it.

1.8V Cutoff – 1274mah capacity
0V Cutoff – 1484mah capacity.

Just got my 20 today. Do Not use these in anything that will drain more than 500mAh. Tried one in my Clone OTR M3 build with Fet+1 ramping IOS. Cell only pulled 800mAh and dropped FAST, blinked to LVP in a few seconds. Cell continued getting warmer for a minute after it was out of flashlight. Not good.

Bad part is I don’t have anything to use them in that is low drain.

They also drop to 2.54 for the bulk of the discharge… Initially it drops to sub 2.5 and rises back up slowly.

Anything that has LVP is going to be a no-go here as it will cut off before any capacity has been drained.

decypher, did you get much heat off these on your discharge test @ 500mAh?
I only tried one cell and kinda got scared to use any more.

There was some heat — but it wasnt to a concerning level. No worse than my NIMH recharges. Was yours really warm?

I don’t expect a 500mah discharge for my application — but expect there are some who will.

I was holding it in my hand after the current draw test in my light. Its cold here so my hands are NOT 98.6*F… Just didn’t feel like my hands were helping it to cool at all. After about 30+ seconds, and no cooling at all, I put it into a metal dish.

$15 – https://www.vipon.com/product/5833686-POCKETMAN-Super-Bright-XHP70-3000-...

Thoughts on this one? Looks like a crappy 3 mode zoomy with a XHP70 Emitter, usb charging, battery indicator and takes 2×18650 or 2×26650.

I tried the code just to see if it worked and it didn’t for me. I’ve had that happen every now and then on their deals, most do work.

Interestingly enough… I noticed the Wuben e05 had a 12.00 coupon on amazon. Apparently I also had an old Vipon coupon for that item in my cart (I must have added it and never completed the checkout). I went to checkout now and it applied both coupons. It was like 4.00 out the door. Kind of hard to say no at that price.
