OK folks, Here is the Lucky Sun D80 provided to me from GearBest for review.

This is a very nice small High Performance 18650 flashlight with very good output, nice thermal management and light weight.
It is quite a bit smaller than a Standard C8 at 130mm in length.
Anodizing is superb and it has a nice feel in the hand.

User interface is as follows;

Always starts on High, then goes to Med, Low, Strobe, Turbo, SOS
Why they stick Turbo in between the Strobe and SOS is one of life’s little mysteries. I would love to know what the engineer’s reasons were.

Good part is it has a very healthy High, Medium is not much lower in visible light even though amperage drops in half, but the real treat here is a very nice usable Low. No it is not a Moonlight but rather is a nice soft .04 amp draw low.

Turbo is direct drive and with a good low resistance cell will pull over 4.30 amps. One battery I tried went over 4.5 amps but not for long.
At this drive the XM-L T6 U2 will get heat sag however the heat management appears to be very good.

It out blasts all of my stock C8’s other than the Tangsfire C8 XM-L2.
The throw is not as much compared to the C8’s because of the smaller reflector. Don’t get me wrong, it still throws well for a pocket light and puts out a lot of light. It is very comparable to the Eagle Eye X6 both in size and throw. It does however have better output than the stock Eagle Eye X6.

Last night I compared it to the Convoy L4 which we all know has great output, this light is roughly the same output on High as the L4 and then definitely brighter on Turbo.
Please also note this Turbo does not step down, so if you like to burn em hard, have at it.

I will outdoor beam shots up by the weekend.
Here are some quick and dirty indoor shots;

Compared to some similar lights

So to sum up for now, this little light has become a quick favorite.
The weird user interface does not bother me as much as I thought it would as it always comes on High and then goes right to Med and Low which is usually where I stop if using it in the barn. If I want to go to Turbo, 2 more quick taps and I am there.
I love the high output and don’t think you can really mod it for more output as it appears to be direct drive.
The tint is warmer than the 26650 model that has the XM-L2 so I am not sorry that this one has the older model emitter, it is one of the best stock T6’s that have come down the pike in quite some time.
Lot’s of bang for the buck here and it is not just another C8, it is very pocketable.

One warning, Lucky Sun builds these things to stay together, it was a Bear to get that driver retaining ring loose. I ended up having to use a big pair of circlip pliers which needed to have the tips ground down to fit the holes in the retaining ring. The scratches can be seen in the photo of the driver ring from the smaller ring pliers that I usually use where they would not provide the torque needed and flexed causing the marks.
Tail cap ring was tight as well but no where near as tight as the Driver ring.

The Bezel was on there pretty good as well and I could not get the reflector to pop out and did not want to tear the O-Ring so that will have to wait for another day.
Anyway enjoy the pics and I will get some outdoor shots soon.
Update; More outdoor shots in thread

The End

Thanks!

Thanks for your review Muto. This looks like an interesting model. Is it a 20mm MCPCB?

I have been eyeing on this model for awhile. I think I will get one soon.

Nice review, the anodizing looks great. This light stand out from the crowd.

I did not get the reflector out, but I have seen a pic of the star and it was 20mm.
Wires are fairly thick for stock unit as well.

Great review Keith.
What bezel is that on the C8? It looks pimpin’

Surprised its an XML instead of XML2. You will lose the bonus lumens it could have had from the AR glass.

Gearbest should change their picture that shows an XML2.

Thanks for the review and pictures Muto

Thanks for a nice review.
How is the PWM on low? I have Palight V5 which seems to have same driver with same weird mode order (but the current is limited to about 1A) and the PWM on low is a bit annoying.

Thanks for the terrific review Muto. That is one wacky driver. It looks to me it would make a great mallet with its blocky shaped head.

Looks like it has the same driver/’wonky’ user interface as my Palight… H/M/L/strobe/Turbo/SOS :expressionless:

… same retaining ring etc.

That is an XR-E model C8 from FT. Great host.

Pregulla,
Look at the row of resistors marked 2RO on yours, now on mine they are all 000.
That is why you are limited to 1A, bypass them and it should go direct drive. Nice picture of that driver. Now if someone can figure a way to reprogram the modes…
As far as PWM, I shown the beam into a computer fan and it appeared to be very little. I am sorry I have no way to test it with meter, etc.
Same fan it is obvious on my Solarstorm.

Thanks for the review. That is not a US that I can snuggle up to. :~

My “scientific” way to measure PWM is waving fast with flashlight in my hand :). If I can see separate images of the head then PWM is too slow. If they are overlapping then the PWM won’t bother me. On V5 the PWM is faster than SC01 as well so probably same as yours.

Yup, I’ve noticed the resistors. V5 is a tube light (originally with XP-E), that’s why it’s limited to 1A. I’ve simply ordered a 1750ma nanj for it. Should solve both current and mode sequence problems. After I’ve got the replacement I maybe will mess with the original driver.

4.36A stock?? X6 Killer!!

Pill or integrated left shelf? Can you tell how thick?

Great review there Keith! Interesting light!

These look just like PaLights even the weird UI is the same! Which is good because I like my PaLight !

Bought one

Had it in my wish list a few weeks, but for that amount of money I think there is nothing wrong to just buy it now.

Thanks for the review!

If this is really Palight quality then I can easily understand your enthusiastic review. Thank you for taking the time. I was well entertained.

hah, love those heavy speaker wires for your ammeter readings

at 4A+ that thing must warm up pretty quick, does it have a turbo timeout?

Might be a good candidate for a triple or quad mod

Need a solder braid on that tailcap spring

Very interesting little setup…do you think a 17mm driver would fit or will a special board need to be made…maybe a BLF DD w/ better UI and no low mode PWM

definitely an interesting little light

Have to switch to a noctigon before copper braiding the tail spring!
Are you getting one WarHawk? Integrated heatsink, looks like some nice mass in the head and the body is thick for heat that spreads down there.
