Hey Scotch drinkers of BLF...

You guys are from all over the world, and pretty resourceful to boot.
How do yankees (like me) get a bottle of this?
It’s even tougher as I’m a Pennsylvania resident (the only state out of 50 to have a Liquor Control Board).

Found Yamazaki 12 years old scotch in North Jersey. The name of the store is Mitsuwa. Its not sherry but I have been looking for Sherry and its impossible to get one especially after the review.

Anyhow I just purchased the 12 year old scotch for $75 and I am going to enjoy every single drip of it!!! Wish you the best luck!

I have to admit I wouldn’t mind trying it but I’m not about to hunt it down. The price will probably get jacked up now anyway. Having been to Japan I was surprised at how nice some of the cheaper whiskeys were. At the end of the day it really is the up to the consumer as to ‘what’s nice’ though. I was talking with a fella at work once and he wasn’t a fan of a whiskey that was given to him, he described it as ‘mouldy socks’, that piqued my interest (sounded exactly what I like) turns out it was one of my fav’s

oooh i must try that!

My current fav is templeton

johnny walker black just went on sale here for $60 for the large bottle (nov and dec sale)…. for the money i really do quite enjoy it.

I also like buffalo trace, knob creek, and the occasional ardbeg

WHAT ARE THE LIQUOR CONTROL BOARDS THAT ARE

IN NORTH CAROLINA~~(ABCC) AND VIRGINIA~~(ABC) ?

WHEN YOU ARE IN THOSE 2 STATES , YOU CAN ONLY

LEGALLY BUY BOTTLED LIQUOR AT A STATE RUN/OWNED

STORE. THE SAME SITUATION AS PA.

In answer to the question of where to get that scotch is:
1-Check online to find liquor sellers in other states that
sell what you want.—They can ship it to you !
2-You also need to check PA LCB rules about liquor that’s
shipped to Pa. private residents from out of state.
3-The liquor sellers/shippers should know the rules also.

Washington state also has a liquor control board. (In charge of marijuana now too)

Yamazaki is $70 CDN up here (roughly $65 US). I can’t see anything special about it.
While Scotch preferences are very subjective, two others that I prefer are Strathisla and Singleton. Both are around $50 CDN, but the latter in particular is superb if you can find it.

If your tastes run to the more ‘peaty’, try Glendronnach - it’s also a real treat.

I’m lucky to have a Scotch fanatic that owns our local liquor store - he’s always hunting for new treasures to sample. He has 40 or 50 labels on the shelf at any given time. I’ve learned that price is not necessarily the best indicator of an enjoyable whisky, some of the smaller distilleries turn out some fantastic stuff at very reasonable prices.

Oh , I forgot Washington did past the legalization of

pot. The state wants to collect all of the $$.

Have you ever tried Johnny Walker “Blue” Label ?

It’s older and more $$ then the Black Label.

I’ve been working up towards the “Blue.” Red, to Black to Gold (which is delicious). Blue is next.

I’m a huge (let me reiterate) HUGE Glenmorangie fan. Any other takers?

Next time I’m at a high end bar I’m going to look for this “Yamakazi.” Has anyone tried it yet?

The trouble with Scotch is, after you’ve had your nose in the ‘good stuff’, everything less tastes like windshield washer fluid. If we’d all just stuck with Glenfiddich, we’d never have known the difference and saved a ton of money.

I’m willing to do a review if they will send me a bottle.

I was underwhelmed by the regular Yamazaki, but that might have been because it was a gift from an ex-girlfriend.

Personal faves:
1 — working whiskey — Highland Park 12. (18 nicer, but not as nice as the price would have you think.)
2 — special treat — Edradour cask strength

Others, in no particular order:
Laphroig, quarter cask
Oban
Jura Superstition (blended, but…)

Can’t say I’m a huge scotch drinker but I’ve had Blue on many occasions, fortunately not on my dime :-). It’s the only scotch a friend drinks, for his parties, there will be cases of it stacked up, bartenders only pour Blue and at the end of the night everybody takes a bottle home. I’ve tried others and since I don’t drink it frequently, I generally enjoy 15+ years more. My current stash is Dalwhinnie 15 and Glenlivet 18. I also like the peaty stuff.

I didn’t bother with Johnny red. Went straight to black then gold. I went ahead and stopped by bevmo on the way home and looked for Yamazaki. No luck.
Bought a bottle of templeton, bulleit green label, and went with buffalo trace jus to give it a taste

I've only tried two dozen or so whiskies, and while they aren't my drink of choice I sure do appreciate them.

From that, I have discovered that blended whiskeys (in my own, admittedly twisted, way of thinking) are sub-par compared to single malts.

The only two which have absolutely blown my mind are Hibiki 30yo and Macallan 25yo.

Okay, I know I just said I don't think blended whiskies are the top, but give me a second.
The Hibiki really astounded me with how straight all the flavours were. The only way I could explain this is listening to an orchestra and being able to hear every single instrument play it's part. Perfectly balanced and in sync with every other flavour.

The Macallan was like being in the orchestra, to use the same analogy. Feeling how it ebbs and flows, heart pounding in the chest in time with the beat.

I like Glenmorangie. I also like Bushmills 18yr, Jonnie Blue, I’ll drink jonnie red but any other colour I don’t really like (OOh except green  ). I haven’t seen it in the past few years but there was a cheap blend at my local that was real smooth for the money. Not really a fan of the ‘peats’ though it was nice to try something ‘different’. Maybe I don’t like the peats because I don’t smoke??

I have in my cupboard a bottle of Chivas Royal Salute (21yrs). Bought it when my first child was born, she is now 12yrs old :davie:

no, I have only had red (junk), black, double black (tasted the same as black) and gold
