What's your favorite multiple AA light still in production?

I’m just trying to see what you all have kept around as your favorite multiple AA light. I only own the Starry Light so I can’t compare it to others, whether in the same price range or higher. I’ve seen the XinTD had some positive feedback while still being at a “budget” price point. Any other favorites?

Ultrafire C3 in stainless steel
(but modded)

Sunwayman D40a

No doubt. For me Sunwayman d40.

+1

Do you guys know of any multiple AA lights that can hit 800+ lumens for $30? I know I’ll probably get recommended to go towards the 18650 world, but even my Convoy C8 only hits mid 600s on an 18650. (though, it’s probably the best bang for your buck 18650 light)

Mini Maglite!!!

Output is partly dictated by battery, however the LED itself and the driver will also be playing a major part of it.

What emitter and driver are in your C8? You might want to considered swapping in a Noctigon mounted XM-L2 and a 3.04A Qlite driver. Run it with a good battery like an Efest purple 18650 and I’m sure it’s output will meet your requirement with relative ease.

Get the LED/driver from here: http://www.intl-outdoor.com/

As for an AA one. Well getting the right voltage and not too much voltage sag or over amp draw of AA’s will be your biggest problem. Forget alkaline, you’ll be wanting quality NiMh such as Eneloops.

The XinTD X3 can run on AA’s (3 or 4, I forget). And is basically a C8 with a fatter body. It performs very well. That said, the X3 will also run on 1x26650 and you’ll get higher output, longer runtime, more max output sustained runtime and even less self discharge.

I think the C8 I’ve got is using the 7135*8 driver. I actually got a free XM-L2 upgrade because they didn’t have any more XM-L emitters. I’ve got a small army of Eneloops already, so that’s why I was hoping to find something in the AA world. The X3 looks nice, but I’ve seen some things about the AA battery carrier not being very reliable. Something like it switches modes when jostled.

The output is low but I like the Trustfire R5-A3. Stainless bezel, black body, and a nice little splash of pink as well.

There is a good battery carrier that can be bought for XinTD X3

SWM d40a

Apparently lots of people like the D40A. I was about to buy it until I realized its mid level jumps from 30 to 220 lumens. Not nice. It has a moonlight mode though.

Nitecore EAX - 8*AA - 2000 Lumens

Sunwayman D40 - My ‘search’ light aka goto light when I hear weird noises at night. We have had thieves lurk and steal here.
Quark X AA2 - EDU Every day use! Pretty beat up light. The switch protection rubber is no more! Threads are super worn out!
ZL H52W - Headlamp of choice. Gorgeous tint. Awesome flood, modes and more! Nothing beats this for hands free work!
Sipik sk68 clone - Car booth emergency light.

Eagletac P100A2W.
Great tint. Simple UI. Lots of light. Good throw for the size. Easy-peasy battery configuration.

Sunwayman D40A.
Well, it’s awesome in every aspect.

I love all the suggestions. Are any around $30? D40A looks great, but it’s just out of my budget for a flashlight.

No one mentioned S15? :frowning:

It’s a 2xAA that can run with 1xAA or 1x14500. Of course, it has it’s flaws, one of them is not being very budget friendly.

Nitecore EA4W (860 lumens 4AA) available under budget (price too low to post here) at ILLUMN using code BLACKNOVEMBER.
