stainless steel ultrafire 503b @ manafont

stainless steel ultrafire 503b

looks nice and shiny. if its like the 504b should be a good one.

Shhhhhh! Dont tell Don. He goes nuts over SS!

It is unpractical, just look at the weigh. Looks really nice though.

having a 4D maglite on my hip for 8 years I always laugh at flashlight weight comments..a non-issue for most of us..lol

For me the price difference of the 503B, almost three times more than the cost of a Silver Ali 504b tube, makes it too heavy on my wallet rather than on my hip.

well it's 100g vs 250g..which is only roughly 2.5x difference..if you check out this chart..pounds per square foot, the differences are pretty accurate.. http://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/gauge-sheet-d_915.html

I suspect the 250G weight is quite accurate and typical of thicker wall examples. Its to bad that SS does such a horrible job of conducting heat to the air or Id consider one for myself.

I have put some flashlights on the scale, without the battery:

Ultrafire C3 SS = 76 gr

Ultrafire P10-R5 = 52 gr

Uniquefire L2 with drop-in = 106 gr

The C3 SS is relatively small, but it feels very heavy (much heavier than the original aluminium version, but i have sold that one). The 504B SS will also feel very heavy for its size, but it looks very nice...

The only problem will be that stainless steel does not conduct heat very well, it could cause some overheating problems with high power drop ins like some XM-L's. You should be able to drive a car over it, it will only scratch a bit. Stainless steel is much stronger than aluminium, the only weak place is the glass lens.

if it weren't for the fact that ss is inferior for counducting heat, especially a factor if you want to use a xm-l, i would get one. it looks great and is undoubtedly very strong, but heat management is a huge issue with P60's.

That's a really good price, same as the SF L2p, and I'd take one over HA-III.

Some more weights (have no digitale scale and my scale is an old one, +/-2gr.):

Ultrafire 504B (Alu): 105gr.

Ultrafire C3 (Alu): 40gr.

Solarforce L2p (original bezel): 96gr.

Hmmm, knurled (actually cross-hatched) stainless steel? I'm sure it's technically possible, but it's a lot harder with SS and it costs a lot more. I wonder if this is really stainless steel.

Good point. I would too, if it's really SS.

Worries me that it specifies Q5 or R5 emitters. Maybe they know that an XM-L would get too hot in it.

Check out the Old´s XM-L low current test thread!

For this kind of host, that would be like the optimal choice. Naturally, if you always need the maximal output, then it´s not so good option... But hey, so is P60 :)

That could be the right choice for this host, not too much power (heat), but still pretty bright.

I like that. Spent too much this week already

Received one of these today and it is shiny and heavy and the finish looks like chrome plating, plenty of blemishes to be seen little lumps and bumps. As much as i like SS i dont like this host :( in the hand it feels very solid and chunky indeed it feels heavier than my 2C Mag although my wife's balance scale says otherwise. I can't see me getting much use from it.

Basically it looks like the more expensive & shinier & heavier twin of the 504b HAIII aluminium. oh and the bezel does not fit on my L2P which i would have liked for contrast.

Add a solarforce pocket clip, it will improve the feel of the light. It made me love my stainless L2. It is still a bit on the heavy side though...

Has anyone else got their hands on one of these? Any information to share? Are there any other currently available stainless p60 hosts?
