Thank you guys Smile

The mini pry bar/french fries fork is my test piece for rock pattern and orange peeling.

It’s quite easy to do, all you need is a steel brush mount on a belt grinder or alternatively on a drill press
(if you don’t work at an orthopedic shoemaking or shoe repair shop Wink

It makes the handle quite grippy, it’s surprising that this little surface treatment hasn’t become more popular on cheap knives from China just as anodizing has.

This was the original one:

https://www.fasttech.com/p/9617915

By the way. Now as I have my 120V power supply for anodizing I realize that the best colors are in the low spectrum Silly
Still it’s nice to be able to adjust the current in 1/10V steps, with 9V batteries it was impossible to get matching colors on framelock knives.
I don’t regret to spend the $62 Wink

Funny thing is that if you google “orange peel titanium” you’ll find some expensive knives with a surface not much better as my try.

The 2 scales and the clip took like 20-30 mins to do, with some practice I’d do a batch like 5 mins per piece…

Maybe the next knife to try it would be my TwoSun TS51

I tried to apply different techniques to enhance blade steels or the frame, but don’t have a lot of machine tools available.

This is something even I could try. Thanks for the idea.

You’re welcome. But for things like stonewashing or anodizing you don’t need much equipment neither, just some time on youtube Wink

I have successfully done stone-washing, never anodized anything.

Something I have never tried is blasting the blade like this:

not sure how to do it

Ok, you’re right, for (bead) blasting you’d need some special equipment even though I’d never blast a blade.
It’s a good technique on handles made of very stainless steel or Ti but every blasted (Kershaw) blade I tried had dots and smudges on it after the slightest use.
Blasting tears up the surface and even “stainless” steels like 8Cr13MoV will get spots.
Only steels used for handles that don’t need edge retention capabilities won’t react like that.

Whenever I get a beadblasted blade I just stonewash it right away, preferably after polishing, that gives a nice “frosted” surface.

I guess that would only work with premium knives.
Who’d want to spend 60-80 bucks on a pair of scales or an orange peel/ano job on a 30 to 40 Dollars knife?

I’ve had a co-worker who got some of my stuff sold, I don’t have that salesman talent, I’m more the tinkerer Wink

But of course, if you see what you like and have an idea with a knife you own or want to order, PM me and I can tell you if it’s possible.

If this one came with a milled clip then I think an orange peel pattern of the circle could look awesome, even more with some anodizing…

Not sure if they’re any good, but for $5, I couldn’t resist.

Sure does look good. Hope the quality is halfway decent. Like you said, for a 5’er it’s affordable to find out.

Let us know how it is when you get it.

For $5, honestly it is a decent knife, although much smaller than I expected. I obviously forgot to look at its dimensions before ordering. I have no complaints about the quality.

The Kizer Domin Mini hit the mailbox today. Excellent little knife. Was clean and lubed nicely from the factory. Good lockup, 35% or maybe 40%. Blade is perfectly centered. Wickedly sharp as well.

I couldn’t pass it up. I have never had a knife that uses Bohler N690 steel. I don’t really know anything about it other than what I read on the internet about it. People seem to like it and compare it to VG-10 steel. Think I read it was a Carbon Enriched Stainless Steel. Time will tell how long it holds an edge and how easy it is to sharpen.

A few other knives are in the picture as well, just for a comparison. From top to bottom. 1 is a Kershaw Leek. 2 Medium sized Honey badger. 3 is a Bestech Pebble. 4 is the mini Domin, and the last one is a Kizer Begleiter.

I really like the size and quality of the mini Domin. Is it worth $55? Yes I think so. It seems to be a solid knife.

My Domin Mini arrived today!! Everything, and more ; you said about it is true toddcshoe!! Thumbs Up

I am a happy camper. Smile

It even has shrunken scales… which are a very nice touch.

Thanks again for the recommendation. Beer

Oh yeah… I got Blue also. Wink

The Land 9103 is on a “super-sale”, currently reduced to 12.99 $US.
Points/other reductions won’t work though (and according to the GB team there are no current coupons):
https://www.gearbest.com/pocket-knives-and-folding-knives/pp_620961.html

Unfortunately, Gearbest have changed the shipping method for all blade products. It now shows up during checkout as “E-packet” and is twice the price compared to before.

Good. Much grippier.
After brushing I polished it on a buffing wheel with white compond for plastic materials.
Without buffing it’s as grippy as aggressive sand blasting (which I dislike).
Also anodizing doesn’t get smudges as quickly as before.
Maybe a new trend soon as it’s really easy to apply.

A co-worker asked me if I wanna do this to all of my Ti knives.
Not too soon but maybe I’ll do it to my TiLock.

Thanks for the heads up on this deal. Your right, E-packet was the only shipping choice at $1.32 for one knife. (I don’t remember how it compares to other orders. But I’ll take your word that it is double. Wink )

But…. if you add a second knife, the same shipping drops to $0.24. Thumbs Up
.

$12.99×2 ……. LAND 9103 Frame Lock Pocket Folding Knife Silver
$0.24……….. E-packet GD-E / 15-28 business days
Shipping Guarantee:…….. $2.62

$26.22……….. Total

There is the 910 Plus . It is slightly larger… The blade is 85mm compared to 82mm for the 9103. Blade steel is advertised the same.

It does have G-10 scales.

Ahm, well. The knives have the exact same dimensions, at least the 6 that I had in hands so far.
That means you can interchange the blades from the G10 and the all steel versions with no problems.
But different people are measuring differently.

The G10 version is a bit wider and grippier, better for hard work. The framelock version is slimmer and carries better in the pocket.
The best one, of course, is my 9103CF follow by the 910+CF Wink

No need to have the sad look upon your face like Han, acab! Wink

I just talked to Gearbest customer service as my order has not been shipped yet.

They were very kind and helpful. They told me the Land 9103 is expected to be restocked again by June 30, 2019.
