What the heck am I getting into??

Hi all,
You’ve probably had these questions a hundred times at least. Is ther a sticky on this site telling about how LED flashlights work in general? Maybe diagrams for the mental visualization challenged. I am just getting into this and have done some searches but just don’t get it. I see some LED flashlights with wires to supplu power and some that use the body of the light(?) to carry power from the clicky switch to the led. Even if you could just throw a couple of links at me I would appreciate it.
Thanks folks.
Pat

Maybe this has already turned up in your searches:

Following the links on that page should help to fill in some of the fuzzy.

Over to the left of your screen where it says main menu, click on forum. That will take you to the index where you can read to your hearts content. One of the common styles has a clicky switch in the tail cap, the the battery tube, then the head with a circuit board(what we call the driver) and led which is mounted on a metal core printed circuit board(mcpcb) both of which are often contained in a unit called the pill which sits directly behind the reflector. LEDs are what is called current devices because very small changes in voltage result in much larger changes in the current through the led so the job of the driver is to control the current to the led and allow for dimming and blinky modes even as the battery drains.
