This paricular aaa light (Hugsby XP1) (I'm very impressed)

This

Anyone had any experience with this?

My plan was to mod it with a warm 4000k xpg2 or xte and that’s it

but my question is how it performs stock? especially on an AAA cell?

It’s going to replace my 1w smiling shark light that’s been in my wallet for years so I was looking for some cree based mini light

I have the 2-AAA version of that light. I like it, single mode, bright, durable. (Hugsby XP-2) i have not tried this version here yet. ( Hugsby XP-1)

Ooo. But how’s the quality. Gritty threads? Plastic op reflector?

My temptation made me ordered one based on the looks.

Was a little jealous that my sister got a quality fenix e05 and I’m using some outdated light

on the XP-2 the threads came greased and smooth. the lens is glass with AR coating, an OP reflector, brass pill, XP-E CREE LED and pocket clip. Its a good light, and assume the XP-1 version here is the same.

Now that’s really interesting. Thanks for the reply

It is the Hugsby XP-1 and I received one last week from the same seller only through his ebay store. I’m of the same opinion as DBSAR. Quality anodizing, smooth threads, moderate output, simple one-mode. Was impressed with the quality when compared to other single AAAs at this price point. Fixing to order 5 more as gifts so thanks for the AliExpress link, saved me a few bucks.

I am pleased to hear that, I ordered one from the same seller last week!

I got it too. It’s a very nice flashlight, budget but with a lot of power.
I’ve buy the 2AAA too(Hugsby XP-2), is a little more powered. There are a lot of thread here on BLF because are very good for the money.

I also recently received a hugsby xp1 from ebay (tomtop wholesale) and found it to be very good quality - very smooth threads and very good anodizing. I was surprised that it has an ar coated lens - didn’t expect that for the money.

John.

I have bought about 8 of them to gift, and edc. I am pleased with them.

For those that have this light already, will a 10440 work?
Or if not, what about interchanging the xp2 head onto the xp1 body, will it accept 10440’s then?

its possible but the 3.7 - 4.20 volt LiIon may overload the driver or cook the LED. The 2-AAA XP-2 is already very bright for a penlight and heats up with 2.4 volts ( 2-AAA NiMH)

Yes the XP-2 head works on the XP-1 body with a 10440 if you use a button top or a spacer like a magnet.

NO the XP-1 does NOT work stock with a 10440, someone here has tried it & it burns out the driver instantly.

The best bonus of the Hugsby’s switching heads are the XP-2 is much brighter with the XP-1’s head  so it is a total win win

Anyone who is interested in the hugsby’s xp-1 & xp-2 and want more info search here on BLF…….

thanks for the info guys! xp2 with xp1 head, a bit longer than what im looking for at the moment though.

man I’m still waiting for mine

I have two of the Hugsby XP-2 (2xAAA) and quite surprisingly all of them come with neutral white XP-E2 at $4.81. I would recommend anyone to buy the 2xAAA version as it would be brighter and running longer. Running a boost driver with a single AAA is a very inefficient setup.

There is thread about disassembling this Hugsby XP-2 and brute force is required to tear it apart… and after that your light will be most likely broken then, so yeah it is not that modding-friendly I’m afraid. I assume that XP-1 has the same structure as the XP-2, but don’t take my word for it.

Just found the related thread here .

Sounds to me like XP-1 single cell body with XP-2 head for single 10440. Or a tiny 10 driver swap.

Yes Scott, my point was to use the short xp-1 body with the xp-2’s head to make a short 10440 capable xp-1.

And by using the xp-1’s head on the longer 2xAA xp-2’s body to make brighter xp-2.

@bibihang, if you check that thread again, you will see that i succeed in getting the hugsby’s head open by using heat to loosen the thread lock,
without damaging it.

Oh that is great then, I missed that one.

Do you know if the xp1 with xp2 head is over 200 lumens on a 10440?
