I’ve been really wanting a new ML300LX LED 3D Maglite for a while now. I have been searching around locally and on the web for a good deal and a couple weeks ago, I found Cheaper Than Dirt . Com had the ML300LX for about 49 bucks. A pretty good deal as I could never find the new Mags locally and lots of web dealers were showing out of stock or wanted too much money…
I tried to place my order a couple times online, but was having no luck getting a shipping quote to Hawaii for some reason. Called the Cheaper than Dirt 800 number and finally was able to place the order with USPS shipping to Hawaii as the cheapest option. Rep. said about a week or so delivery time. He said I’d be getting a tracking number emailed after it shipped.
Several days go by and no email… A week comes up and I try and call in, but the wait times are like 40 mins! I send a contact email asking for my order details/tracking and no response. A second email two days later finally gets a response…
“I apologize profusely for the mistake, but we cannot ship flashlights to HI as they contain batteries” … WTH?
A second email arrives an hour later…
“Good afternoon, That order has been canceled.” ….That’s it nothing else!
A. That Maglite doesn’t come with batteries.
B. If it did have batteries, so what? it would be alkaline…
C. If that is a policy, why did the rep sell me the flashlight on the phone with no problems?
D. Never ever received an email or phone call notification of the cancel.
E. I had to chase after them to find out what was going on and get a credit back to my credit card!
What a terrible experience shopping with Cheaper than Dirt… Never again!
Sorry for the long rant, but I was pretty anxious to get my light and pretty upset to learn it was a total failure.
i refuse to use CTD because after the school shootings, they intentionally jacked the prices of firearms and ammunition WAYYYY up. They claim to support the gun community while at the same time attempting to rape them. BS company that can rot in hell for all I care.
CTD was always my go to company back in the day before web ordering was so easy. (1-800 call-in’s)
I have used many others since then and decided to try them out again. Now I know to stay away…
Their archaic shipping practices are a joke. Last I checked, Hawaii was the 50th. state and although “overseas” shipping can be a slight challenge, everyone else does it with no probs…
This is the same exact reason I do not do business with them. I know it is their business to run how they want to, but I will also spend my money at places as I see fit.
Pretty sure my credit card was compromised after buying one item from CTD using a credit card I hadn’t used for anything else. Googling it showed that quite a few people had the same thing happen. Won’t buy from them again. Bank replaced my card and I was not liable for the bogus charges, but it was inconvenient getting it all straightened out.
