What to do with 50x CR123s?

A couple years ago in my early flashaholic days, one day I decided to have a supply of CR123s, in case of “something happened”. I spent more than $100 buying about 70 pcs of panasonic and sanyo CR123 primaries.

Well, “something” never happened and somehow now I have a stash of 18650 instead which are far more useful. However my CR123 are about to expire in 3 years and I don’t know how to use them. I have about 50 left, and my only flashlight that takes them is a nitecore extreme infinity (only 200lumens).

I would like to mod a cheap light and make it CR123 compatible while being bright enough for me to EDC. Any suggestions?

Sell them here or on ebay.

But keep 5 - in case that “something” happens

I have a groovy idea. Give them away to some new Flashaholics. IMHO: You have already gotten your moneys worth. You used 20, the other 50 made you feel safe and secure!

Share the love, open a giveaway thread that has say….5 winners…to qualify they post a pic of their CR123 light and they can’t have, say, over 100 posts or so.

There ya go little fella, problem solved, love shared, good feeling in your heart & mind.

In the famous words of the RHCP: “Give it away now!”

I would buy a few single cr123 lights and use/keep them .They aren't going to "go bad". They don't take up much room.

I have some old Romisen lights that run well off these in my cars so I store about 2 lights and several batteries in each.

you could modify your flashlight(The ones work with 18650 battery) by changing the flashlight bulb.Usually the flashlight working with 1 x 18650 battery has the working voltage 3.6-4.2V. If you could replace a bulb with working voltage more than 6V, then your flashlight could work with both 18650 and CR123A batteries, but the working tube could be installed 1 x 18650 or 2 x CR123A batteries. Actually most flashlights’ tube could. Hope this could help you out.

Where do you live by the way? If in any chance you
Are near me (i live near the equator too), i can buy
Them for 20cents each. I think these will still
Work(but lesser capacity) after 10 years. Will be
Making 1 time use flashlights with them.
The giveaway idea is great, shipping maybe an issue though.

I doubt they’ll suddenly die right after their expiration date, so I wouldn’t be too worried about them.

Maybe you can keep half of them (they should be good for another 5-10 years) and donate or sell the rest as others have suggested.

Some long term tests might be cool, maybe test 2-5 a year and see how their performance degrades.

Under $20 and you get another CR123 lol…

The giveaway is a great idea, and I would do that if I was in the US where shipping costs are low. I live in Panama and to ship anything to the US is at least $15. I have several flashlights that I want to sell but can’t because of the shipping costs.

I will do a discharge test with my icharger 106B+ and post the result.

Trustfire Minis looks good! Thanks for the suggestion. the 02 looks like the big version of my beloved lummi RAW.

I noticed Richard just announced a 1-4A buck driver, I think something nice can be built with a S2+.

Also I bought this, looks interesting enough.

Is this a CR123, 16340, light??? Link to it, please? Thanks!

The specs doesn’t tell much, but according to one of the reviews it does work with CR123.

Sacrifice a few for science and buy a new CR123 light to use the rest in
