Modified Lights For Sale (10 for sale)(5 left)

Ive got some lights that I need to get serious about selling finally. Prices are shipped in the continental US. If you are an international member you’ll have to pay actual shipping costs. I ship USPS priority mail and will strive to ship within 24 hours after I receive payment. Tracking numbers will be PM’d to the buyer once I have the package in the mail.

If anyone is interested in a light and wants more pictures please ask and I will try to post them as quickly as I can. It’s an aweful lot of time to just snap a huge amount of pictures unless they’re needed.

Edited to add: I’m open to offers if after a few days there hasn’t been interest on a light, but please be conscious of the fact that I don’t give my time away for free. If I can’t make something building these then I have to stop building them or be prepared to start sleeping in the garage all the time, not just when I fall asleep soldering. With that in mind don’t expect me to knock 25% off of these lights, if I did that I’d be down to the cost of just the materials to make a most of these, and it means I’d lose money on some.

Note lighted tailcaps cause the drivers to become next mode memory, I’ll be investigating to see if I can find a way to prevent this, but I’m not expecting a solution is to be found

Update, it looks like there may be a solution

Update 2: Mode memory working, shouldn’t be a problem moving forward

Update 3: Red and orange/amber LED’s for the tailcap will draw 3-4x the current as green, blue, pink, warm white, and cool white for equivalent brightness. Easily visible in a well lit room brightness is approximately 1-2mA in the more efficient colors.

Bump for a fellow Husker and lighted tailcaps

Good luck with the sale.

some really nice lights and mods! good luck with the sale

Thanks guys. I know these can hardly be called budget lights anymore, but then again they don’t perform like budget lights either. One thing I try to focus on is build quality when I put lights together; clean solder joints, soldered assembly whenever possible, Noalox on pill threads, Nyogel on o-rings, painted or darkened pills to reduce reflections, etc. My motto is that anything worth doing is worth overdoing.

I’ve actually had a problem on a few of the zoomies I’ve built that the head movement creates a vacuum that holds the switch boot down, have to twist back towards flood mode to get the switch to release. I generally have to remove some nyogel from the threads and o-rings to allow the tube to breathe again when zooming.

Once slow2go tells me what color/colors he wants for his tailcap and I get it put together I’ll post pictures so people have an idea what to expect.

I’ve got slow2go’s lighted tailcap made, but I need to make sure it’s bright enough for him before I send it out. Two red 0805 LED’s and a 1k limiting resistor. The reds take a lot more current to be bright enough to see in a normally lit room, the green I used on the tailcap of my S6 is much brighter using a 2.2k limiting resistor. It definitely won’t be visible on a sunny day or a very bright room, but it is in a reasonably normal light level inside, and is bright but not hugely distracting in the dark. I solder the brass post directly to the spring/wire jumper, and had to machine the plastic collar and aluminum retainer to make everything seat fully and have a little movement still in the spring. I’m definitely going to be making Chinese slave labor wages putting these things together at $8 a piece, but I like them going out on the lights, so whatever.

This is before I had machined the collars.

It lights up!

I used red liquid electrical tape to protect the switch tabs and since the LED’s are red I hit the outside of the switch in case it would reflect a little and help reduce the black hole effect the switch creates.

What it looks like in a normally lit room. Pretty reasonable comparison to how it looks to the eye.

What it looks like in the dark. The color is a tad off, and it’s not as bright as the picture makes it look. Chalk it up to using a phone to take the pictures. There is a noticeably darker area where the switch blocks some light, but not too bad.

Pm sent.
Thanks!
Keith

Brighter tailcap for slow2go. Mode memory working again. Sweeeeeeeeeet!

Tailcap mod looks good, Paypal sent.
Thanks!

Hi

Good mods! luck with the sale

A query, as feed the smd leds on the tailcap?

Thanks

I think you’re asking how they’re powered. See this thread.

Yes! Thanks, I had overlooked

Update regarding tailcap LED’s in original post.

Here is a picture of a green tailcap setup running at 2mA. I measured the ambient light at 270 lux to give an idea what the room light level is. At 2000 lux of ambient light it’s washed out to the point where it’s not really visible. (it might be visible on a cloudy day)

Edit: Here they are, 2 greens for 2 sold lights. Slow2go has the one on the left with 5.6mA draw. Muto gets the other one with 2.1mA draw. Mode memory working on both. They’ll go in the mail today. Thanks for waiting for the results of the testing on the red LED’s, I hope you enjoy your new lights. Please post your thoughts once you get a chance to play with them.

Good Day Kloepper Knife Works,

Great Superb work!

Best Regards,

Bump!

Thanks keengeorge. I’m not one to push hard to hock my goods. I’m glad you think this is worth bringing back to the top.

Bump, bumpity, Bump, BUMP

Received the light yesterday…
Works great …. Very Bright with excellent beam control
The lit tail cap is really great. Plenty bright very visible from
across the room. Excellent addition to this great light.

Thanks again.
