Cree does not use DTP technology

Or do they? Why don’t they?

What is a DTP ?

DTP= Direct Thermal Path. Sinkpad, Noctigon.
The lights that we get always have the regular aluminum non DTP MCPCB’s.

IIRC some of the big cree’s have a negative potential on the middle solder pad. If the DTP is also a direct electrical path to the bat- it might cause issues for the driver?? Just guessing, I’m no expert.

Safety issue? Makes sense.

Just because the cheap lights have aluminum mcpcb’s that say Cree on them doesn’t mean that Cree did it. They can have your name put on there if it behooves em.

behooves em! LOL!!

Smaller lights, I thought you said you sold flashlights yesterday.

Alright then…

CREE only makes the LED, not the board it is soldered onto…

Chinese manufacturers like to put the label "CREE" on the MCPCBs, but is only to be show that brand of LED is on the board, not to say that the MCPCB is made by CREE. Now often times you see XP-G2 board label CREE, but the pads are suitable for other 3535 LEDs from other companies (Samsung, Nichia, etc) and that point labeling the MCPCB "CREE" does not makes sense anymore.

CREE does not make any flashlights, they make Light Emitting Diodes a.k.a LEDs

Those CREE labels on flashlight bodies are what manufacturers choose to laser etch.

Who is misrepresenting themselves?

I guess its analogous to car makers. They(Car makers…Ford etc…) do not also make the tires they put on the new vehicle, but some tires perform a lot better than the ones they sell with the car.

Cree doesn't make MCPCBs. /THREAD

I don't get where you're going with the tire analogy. Cree doesn't sell MCPCBs with the LEDs.

I thought Cree made MCPCB’s to go with their LED’s. I guess they don’t. My question was, why not. I mean if these Noctigons and Sinkpads are good for the health of the LED. Should they not make them too, to go with them?

There probably isn’t enough money in it for them, given the investment they would need to inject.
