REVIEW: Sunwayman C22C (main XM-L2 + side XP-G2 , 1x18650)

<span class=“language english the in myself express to way correct the me suggest and phrase” “strange a wrote i where me point wanna you if corrections and suggestions accept I me. with compliant be please so error, grammar of lot a making surely am i english, in write to good so not am i”>

First impressions:
Shipped from: Gearbest http://www.gearbest.com/led-flashlights/pp_165477.html
low coupon price $36.48

It arrived in a nice box with sunwayman logos and pictures reflecting main flashlight features, and even a working QR code, that brings you directly (scan with google goggles) to their homepage site, but not the product page…… a little fail
The flashlight itself is a nice breath of fresh air in the world of flashlight, it’s not easy to find similar ones browsing on the most flashlight online stores.

I personally bought it attracted by the safety that a “branded” flashlight can assure, in terms of internal electronic components and their relative durability…since TWO leds are ready and desirous to raise the temperature of the overall unit and stress the useful life of 2 leds !!..and i’m gonna think/hope which sunwayman inserted a first choice leds.
Then i grant, fabulous price of the GearBest GroubBuy definitively convinced me to order it

Accessories included: Clip, Lanyard, and 3x O-rings (one for each side of battery tube that’s of different diameter, and the third to be inserted between the front glass and the reflector)

Modes and estimated lumens:
Switch type: ELECTRONIC
There are “ 3/4 ” modes in the following order:
turbo (only for 3 minutes) – hi – med – low (for XM-L2)
hi – med – lo (for XP-G2)
ONLY medium setting (for BOTH led on)

Hidden mode: STROBO with double-click, and within 3 seconds, another double-click for SOS

Quick-double-click the switch and hold to activate BOTH the top white AND side neutral white light at the same time
Turning off the light: slightly depress the switch and a click sound is heard to turn off the light under any mode

BRIGHTNESS in both leds on mode: for the XP-G2 it equals its MED mode, but for the XM-L2 it is something “within” its HIGH and MEDIUM mode

My estimated lumens are 850/900
I tested the runtime with BOTH leds on: 2h20min (with panasonic 3400mah) and 1h52min (with samsung 2600mah ICR18650-26F M)

>>LIGHT >>> The angle of refraction:

Weight and dimensions measurements (made myself, not by specs):
This flashlight weighs precisely 84 gr
Height 11,1 cm
Diameter 2,7 cm
Head diameter 2,8 cm

Construction quality:
Mine unit arrived without any scratch or external defect, it appears well machined but the threads are NOT SQUARED.
The exterior design is actually well designed, with no cutting edge and a nice knurling on the tailcap that helps to easily rotate it.
If you would to compare its size in terms of lenght, with a Zebralight SC600 mk II L2 (that’s one of the most short 1x18650 flashlight with 10,1cm) you will discover that the C22C is “only” 1cm longer with 11,1cm…. !!

But you have to consider that with C22C, here you hold a SECONDARY XP-G2 led and at the tailcap an integrated and powerful magnet built in (helpful in emergencies such as night car problems), and finally a tungsten steel spike (always at the extremity of the tailcap) that can be used to break a glass.

READ CAREFULLY about the low-voltage indicator lamp:
As you can observe there’s 4 little holes, but they are NOT meant/intended to be a % indicator of battery!!!
They only contains ONE RED LED (light is spread on all 4 holes) that warns you when the voltage of the battery decrease BELOW 3,2v/3,1v (approximately)

Lanyard hole: PRESENT (one)

Threads came SLIGHTLY GREASED, but this is not a big con, i used my grease.(mine isn’t an high quality one, but you can buy a top notch if you prefer)

Led Tint, reflector and lense:
The led is well centered and its tint is a soft warm white (on spot), but tending to cold (on spill)
Reflector made of: ORANGE PEEL – ALUMINUM and a tiny aspherical lense for the side led
Lense made of: GLASS

Outside beamshot at 25 meters, only at FULL power (same place for all my reviews)

Wall beamshot at 250 centimeters, from lower to higher power (same place for all my reviews)

Ceiling bounce test with LUXmeter:

PROS:

- 2 leds in a such tiny host!.. perfect for exploration

- usable as headlight with an appropriate headband (not included)

- killer price at 39$ (now lowered at $36.48)with the group buy price, thanks to gearbest shop

- red led warning about low battery

- strong and helpful magnet

  • tungsten steel spike (i hope you never need to use it!)

CONS:

- keep very heat with both leds on (pretty obvious, being small)

- fixed level of brightness with both leds on (but at least, the default one setted is a good middle choice)

  • sold as COLD main led, but it’s a pure white slighly tending to warm (comparing it with my thrunite tn12 2014 cold tint)

Final thoughts and why you should buy it:

3 things… Price! Quality! Features!
This is the only one flashlight to pick up in a “prepare to run and escape” hypothetical zombie apocalypse scenario, you only need to remember to carry a spare headband with you if you need your hands free (always to kill zombies!!).
It’s IPX-8 waterproof, small and strong.
Sunwayman forged the best multi-led 1x18650 flashlight, incorporating their best electronics in the narrow and well optimized internal host space.
It could have been the PERFECT flashlight, if equipped with a microusb charging port (but required electronics would increase the overall size)

Thanks for reading……
….and if you notice some bad written phrases, feel free to correct me suggesting the right way to write it!!

Re-posted here from GB thread, tail amp readings and lumens output from my PVC elbow lightbox:

Just got a C22C from BangGood - they price matched GearBest! I am soooo better off getting it from BangGood - they shipped it from California: ordered 7/31, rcv'd 8/03, free shipping.

The C22C comes apart pretty easily. My measurements on a fresh LG HE2:

Front XM-L2:

turbo: 2.58A -- 945 lumens (steady!)

hi: 1.161A -- 656 lumens

med: 0.41A -- 228 lumens

lo: 0.07A -- 39 lumens

side XP-G2 (no lumens):

hi: 1.11A

med: 0.31A

lo: 0.08A

I was debating whether I should try a resistor mod on the R015 resistor, by the inductor - only obvious one I could find. I got the bezel off, but didn't pop out the reflector yet. Thinking of swapping the LED for a neutral, or maybe a U4 1C.

Update: I did remove the reflector fine. Looks like I'll upgrade the LED's, maybe a Nichia for the side and Neutral for the XM-L2, or might go higher power with a U3 or U4.

I'm thinking the amps and lumens scale well, and may be consistent with true amp regulated modes, not PWM's, but not sure.

I just have it in hand for less than 24 hours and found that the memory feature is kinda funny. It will forget the last memory when I turn on another LED and reset it to default

Yes - that's how it works. Memory is only good from session to session if you stay with the same LED. Thought that was written somewhere. Kind of/sort of a nuisance. I'm really liking this light though for it's versatility. Just wish that silicone type of aspheric dome was protected, or built better - don't see how it will hold up with pocket use. Then of course, others experienced a total melt down of it too.

I agree with you, Tom.
Despite its strange looking and a little bit bulky in size, I think I like this flashlight.

I got good news this afternoon.

Looking at the head size, I think a 20 mm triple Nichia will just fit perfectly.

My switch has random issues of working/not working. Any body has those issues? Considering of taking it off and checking why it is acting like this…

my switch works fine, but i admit i didn’t use so much the flashlight so far.

Mine has been working fine. Maybe a bad solder joint on a switch post or contact. I've seen/had a couple of switch issues. Soldering on switch's tend to take more of a beating because of slight movements with use.
