Hi my friends!

it has been a while since i received:

BOXES!

filled with Shadow JM35 flashlights !

the Sticker says one is a Cree XHP50 LED - so the other has to be a Cree MT-G2 LED
(because that are all sold options)

inside the boxes could be twins

both had the same bubblefoilbag with the same things in it:
A spare lens and a red Oring, a lanyard and a user manual (i think…)

i pulled the lights out of their foam packaging and YAY!

just kidding! - the batterytube with the rear switch was taken from a JM30
the JM35 DOES NOT have a rear klickie - it is operated only with the side e-switch.
lockout by turning the batterytube ½ turn is possible.

UI:
a short click brings LOW-MID-HIGH-LOW-MID…
long click to OFF from any level
always starts on LOW
i found no dico and ni visible PWM
BUT the XHP50 squeaks on low and mid - the MT-G2 is quiet…

some more pics…

on the left side MT-G2 - right side XHP50

using UV light shows the “warmer” tint of the MT-G2s phosphor

a look into the driver

unfortunately i did not manage to get it open…

at the end of the battery tube sits a thin spring

some reported they had to bridge them with wire to make the light work with protected cells - more later on that.

instead of the rear swiitch the JM35 has a plug (made from plastic)

battery tube is well done

as is the lubed threads

opened up the hot end

MT-G2

quite thick aluminium MCPCB

XHP50

the side switch is well made

also well done is the machining

the anodisation looks a bit shiny and slippery…but thats just my point of view…

the JM35 is a small light when it comes to lenght…

i like the feel of the JM30 better…

or a K40

or…

but small can also be beautiful

lets use them what the was made for…

for all my tests i used keeppower cells

the XHP50 10 cm in front of a wooden plank

i had to use darker settings to get the dark cross from the 4 dies on camera

but 30 cm away the cross is gone!

if you look carefully you see that the MT-G2 (on the right side) also has a doughnuthole

30cm away….

shining upwards

upwards, in front of my home cinema canvas

the setup i used for the beamshots

look me in the eye!

look at the massive PWM!

numb3rs:
table(table#posts).
|JM35|MT-G2||JM35|XHP50||JM30|MT-G2|modded|
|low|mid|high|low|mid|high|low|mid|high|
|224 lm|1052 lm|2080 lm|228 lm|1060 lm|1940 lm|80 lm|760 lm|2980 lm|
|0,33 A|1,85 A|5,3 A|0,36 A|1,92 A|5,2 A|0,075 A|0,84 A|4,71 A|

Amperes measured at the tailcap // my BudgetLightBox gives a bit high numbers…

some things…

both lights DID work with my protected keeppower 26650!
but with none of my protected 18650s!
unprotected 18650s worked IF thes are high Amps capable !
using a bad cell resulted in a massive voltage drop which caused the drawn Amps to rise !!
a Samsung ICR1865022E (pulled cell) dropped from 4,12V to 3.0V and was squeezed 6,7A
a Sony 18650VT pull dropped from 4,1V to 3,7V and delivered 5,1A
and so did a Samsung ICR1865022P…

when the batterytube is tightened and the Driver goes to “standby” a initial flash appears (too fast for my Ampmeter) which triggers weak protection circuits…

a unprotected cell and a eachine cell (resets the protection fast!)
other cells just shut off and had to be reactivated … (tried 4 different protected cells)

Conclusion:
nice lights!
a bit too small for me tough - i have to grab the head also to hold it comfty
the need of “special cells” is mentioned at banggood - so have them prepared
word is that a bridged rear spring can make more cells to work
for that small ammount of money you get a lot of light - but you can see that its a cheap one
(but still better made than the JM30 was)
unfortunately i could not get a view of the driver (the lights will be given away so i can´t destroy them)

RuleZ:

everyone who proofes to me he bought a JM30 or JM35 at banggood haves the chance for light No.1

(winner may choose which emitter)

giveaway ends 30.6.2015!

light No.2 will be given away after that in a separate thread for all members (maybe with some funny rules ;) )

Why doing a giveaway for the people who already bought one...wouldnt they already have one? Then the vast majority of this forum would not be able to join.

Thanks for the giveaway though....

if one has a MT-G2 he could add the XHP50 Version or vice versa.

I thought that’s a nice idea to make things a bit different….

I will do a giveaway for all members at 2k posts anyway

ask if I forgot something

to the “I only speak one language”-People: Use babelfish ;D

It reminds me on a competition/contest I once heard on radio - there the first prize was a radio

well - the first one goes to a member to make his set complete .

on the second one anyone has a chance !

I try to get a new set of codes for jm 30/35 and cells
(the mt-G2 always came with the extension tube ;))

M4D M4X nice photos of both torches. Thanks for posting along with your thoughts. On high how warm does the head of the torches get?

Thanks for the review mad max. Subscibed.
i will buy them from bg, cant wait any longer…

based on picture the xhp50 has a narrower beam so it should more throw than floodier mtg2 ?
i cant choose which emitter i’m going to buy… please advise. what do you think.

and also the coupon already expired for shadow jm35

I hope I can make real life beamshots in a few days

that should answer your questions

still waiting for beamshot before buying.
are you going to mod your jm35? like thicker wire, spring bypass?

thanks madmax

since I can’t get to the driver I have no chance to mod it…

I tried the effect of spring bypass by comparing lumens with stock tube and connecting negative from cell with thick wires direct to the drivers back
no difference - I leave it stock hence the giveaway

Giving away lights to people who already own the lights. That’s interesting…

Looking at the beams from the upside view seems the xph50 will throw better…. could you do some lux measurement if doesn’t bother you too much.

Codes seem to have expired.
