I’ve tried the suggested way to change modes in the S2 but no go yet (On Low press switch halfway down for 3 sec.). I don’t need the strobes just H, M, and L.
How should I be doing this?

Switch modes group.
Switching to other group of modes on my Convoy S2+ goes like this:
a/ go to Low mode.
b/ wait for approximately 4 seconds, then the light blinks one time.
c/ immediately push the button halfway, as if you wanted to change levels.
d/ (seems like) nothing happens, you’re still in Low mode, but now you’re in the other group!

If you never want the disco lights and you have the driver with the stars, you can permanently get rid of it by soldering the 3 star from the left to ground (stars on the bottom when you are looking at it). That’s what I do on mine.
Otherwise as was already said you have to wait until the light blinks on low before you can change modes.
