New LG LEDs on the way including XP-L and XHP50ish competitors?

Howdy BLF gang,

I was looking at the LG Innotek website today and I saw that they had a new 3535 model up, the H35C2. There was no datasheet for it, but there’s a 2015 LG LED brochure (dated 4-22-15) that lists a few interesting things, namely the H35C2, the H35F0, and the H70E0.

H35C series with new C2 variant:

H35F series:

H70E Series:

Of the three, the H35C2 just looks like a small improvement over the H35C1, but if I’m reading things right the H35F0 5000k 70CRI one yields 500 lumens (presumably at 25°C) at 1050 mA which would make it comparable to an XP-L V4 at 25°C. One has to imagine that has a larger die than the H35C’s because I can’t see how they’d get that kind of output otherwise. The H70E is just odd as it seems like an XHP70 sized XHP50 competitor but I’m really not sure what to make of it.

Thoughts?

I’m not sure I understand what LED you are referring to there smaller lights, but I guess the H35F0 kinda looks a little like the Nichia 219C:

As I looked at it a bit further, I notice that the H35F0 now has almost exactly the same dimensions as the XP-L and the same truncated/squared dome thing going that the XP-L has, which again suggests a significantly larger die than the XP-G/G2 comparable H35C series were. Look at the dimensions:

  • H35C1/C2 - 3.4 x 3.4 x 2.37mm
  • H35F0 - 3.45 x 3.45 x 2.62mm
  • XP-L - 3.45 x 3.45 x 2.68 mm

Here’s a closer crop of the new H35F0:

A closeup of the H35C1:

And the XP-L:

Also, the thermal resistance of the H35F0 is significantly lower than the H35C series (2.5 °C/W vs. 6.0 °C/W) and that compares reasonably well with the XP-L’s 2.2 °C/W.

I’m willing to bet LG doesn’t quite catch Cree again with these, but their tactic has seemed to always be a decent amount cheaper, so we’ll just have to see if that holds. Anyone heard anything about these? I’ve only been able to dig up that brochure and haven’t found anything else.

One last thing smaller lights, if you go to that LG Innotek website it looks like they apparently make 6 different UV LEDs, like this guy:

I did ID the LED when he took the ring off.

Hmm, thread is locked so I’m not sure how to look at that. What LED did it end up being? I guess one of the reasons I’m excited about these is that if the H35F0 really is an XP-L competitor it’ll have to have a larger die than LG’s other offerings, probably about the same size as the XM-L2/XP-L one, and to my knowledge that’d be the first time someone has tried to compete with Cree in that space.

Shut up and take my money!

I’m surprised that our resident LED crash test dummy smarty hasn’t tried any of these out yet.

This smarty just now notices this thread ;-)

I will test anything as long as I can get it somewhere affordable. The LG leds thusfar seem (did not test, just looked at datasheets) to perform a bit less than Cree's Nichia's or Osram's, so (perhaps unjust) I never took the trouble to test them (same for the Samsung 3535 leds).

Samsung and LG are years away from Nichia and Cree, 3535 is actualy an Epiled chip( sometimes they use cree cores)… Epistar/Epiled actualy developed many popular chips : 2835, 3014, 5050, even the COb emitter too), but considering lumen/watt ratio they are far away from Cree atm
