Review: Microtech Combat Troodon OTF and SRM GB 763 from Manafont.

Microtech Combat Troodon OTF

SRM GB 763

Purchased both these knives from Manafont. I received the Microtech Combat Troodon two days ago after two and a half weeks from ordering. It came in a retail packaging with a catalog, a holster and the knife. First thing youll notice is the heft and weight of the knife. Gripping it feels like the material is rubberized. E1320 had recommended using rem oil to clean and lubricate the internals. went to walmart and purchased a 10oz can for $6 and unscrew the glass breaker and sprayed into the hole until the dripping oil was clear. It made the action smoother and at least i know its lubed in there. It comes with a safety feature where if it is engaged accidentally and hits something it wont lock. I just tried engaging it onto an envelope with a letter inside and the blade did not go into lock position.

9.45" long from tip to tip

Tanto blade is sharp with serrations. It is almost as wide as my palm. Blade play is minimal from side to side.

switch takes some effort to engage but makes a pronounced click when opening and closing.

Uses allen screws so no need for special tool to open.

comes with clip and glass breaker.

Overall im really happy with this knife. I was'nt sure which OTF to get but Thanks to E1320 for posting about this knife.

Construction is solid, Really sharp blade, Looks and feels like its worth a lot more than what i payed for it.

Its BIG!

This is my second srm763 as i gifted the first. I was impressed with this little knife and the axis lock mechanism.

It came in a plain white box but it was the content that was important. the G10(Thx jekostas) grip is very grippy, the clip is reversible and holds quite well. Its got a very sharp edge and seems to be holding. also comes with a lanyard hole.

The blade has no play and opening/closing is effortless. overall a good everyday carry knife.

I highly recommend both these knives to everyone you won't be disappointed.

reserved looks like most of my review went missing

Hmm, I wonder what happened?

Should point out that the grip of the 763 isn't plastic - it's G10, which is an epoxy laminate of glass filled nylon. Extremely tough stuff.

Very good review...Im going to have to get an 763...I dont like Axis locks, but the knives looks so nice I will give it another chance to like it...

Nice stuff! I love my axis lock knives. Easy one handed opening and closing with just a flick of my wrist.

I really like the OTF knife and want to order one but am concerned about the rubberized exterior holding up. It reminds me of the coating they use on cordless power tool grips that is great at first but starts to peel and come off when used hard. Can anyone vouch for the durability of the coating on this compared to the others with grip tape and anodizing?

Nice review, though I find it very painful to read as I can never own a knife like the OTF unless I move to another country.

Any idea what kind of steel is in that OTF?

I love my 763 as I have just received it last week..i'm in the same boat as edc for the OTF knives..illegal in Canada..might just strap a broadsword to my back as that is legal here..makes a lot of sense right? lol

Used the knife to cut some branches and probably got some saw dust in there. it affected the mechanism but sprayed rem oil in there and good as new.

not sure what material this is but seems durable so far.

Some interesting things about Canadian knife laws:

-Knives of any blade length are legal as long as they aren't concealed.

-Push daggers are illegal.

-Blades concealed in items under 30cm are illegal.

-Gravity knives are illegal.

-Balisongs are illegal.

-Button activation automatics and switchblades are illegal.

This may not seem like a strange set of laws, but follow along for a second.

First law means that you could literally strap a sword on your back and wander around with it as long as you didn't go in to any controlled areas (courthouse, school) and you aren't threatening anyone with it.

Third law means that things like dagger combs and belt buckle knives are illegal, but sword canes, dagger canes and sword umbrellas are perfectly legal.

Sixth law means that you can't have a switchblade, but knives that use a spring assist mechanism with a flipper on the blade are perfectly legal.

It's like a bunch of lawmakers got mightily drunk and threw darts at a dartboard when making up weapon carry laws here...

Our knife laws are a bit vague and open to interpretation by the customs officer. But that OTF knife would be a definite no-no.The srm is fine but I can flick mine open by depressing the switch and flicking it. Must have got lucky. Probably saving me money anyway. I used to buy knives from aus ebay or shops. I have kershaw knife that I bought in the mid 80's that cost me $95. It was a lot of money back then.

hmmm sword umbrella? That would be interesting

Now I really can't wait to get my Microtech Combat Troodon.

I have a 763 on the way from Exduct. Tried to get it from Discoverybargain but they failed to even acknowledge the order yet had no problem billing paypal. Slightly better luck with Exduct. They shipped my order almost a week ago but dind't give me a tracking number.

At any rate I love the Axis lock on my mini Griptilian so I'm hoping the SRM is of similar quality. How do you like the Tanto style? I'm leaning that way for my next knife buy.

you literally can strap a broadsword to your back and walk around the mall..it happened in my city by a very old high school friend that lost his mind..my current co-worker worked security at the mall and called the police when he saw the sword..they informed him that there were no laws against it and it had to be mall policy that would dictate if he was allowed in the mall or not..i'm sorry but i'd rather be facing a switchblade than a broadsword lol..which sucks cus i'd love that troodon

sorry for the off-topic..

Yes, but with broadsword your opponent obviously loses the element of surprise, providing you the opportunity to fetch your own broadsword to make it a fair fight.

"That's not a knife!" As he reaches behind his back for the broadsword. I would like to see that.

Dropped the knife on concrete from 4'

i guess a little permanent marker will fix it. everything still works fine though.

For a millisecond I thought you snapped the blade off - then I remembered the blade retracts.
