REVIEW: UltraFire F-13 (XM-L U2 , 1x18650/26650)

<span class=“language english the in myself express to way correct the me suggest and phrase” “strange a wrote i where me point wanna you if corrections and suggestions accept I me. with compliant be please so error, grammar of lot a making surely am i english, in write to good so not am i”>

First impressions:
Shipped from: GearBest http://www.gearbest.com/led-flashlights/pp_5499.html
special price 11.39 with coupon UFL2CM

First thing you can notice is that’s solid and surprising (thank you Alcius)above the average construction quality.
It arrived with a thin transparent plastic cover on the frontal lense, and this is appreciable for a low budget item.

Modes and estimated lumens:
Switch type: MECHANICAL
There are “ 5 ” modes in the following order:
Hi – med – low – strobo - sos

My estimated lumens are 550/600

>>LIGHT >>> The angle of refraction:

Weight and dimensions measurements (made myself, not by specs):
This flashlight weighs precisely 167 gr
Height 15,2 cm
Diameter 3,2 cm
Head diameter 4,1 cm

Construction quality:
Like i mentioned previously, the host is really well made but with a little exception….the tailcap threads don’t have a perfect equal diameter, so while i’m screwing the tailcap i notice there’s a little gab, but it does disappear once fully screwed.

Lanyard hole: PRESENT (two)

Threads came NOT GREASED, but this is not a big con, i used my grease.(mine isn’t an high quality one, but you can buy a top notch if you prefer)

Led Tint, reflector and lense:
The led is well centered and its tint is cold white
Reflector made of: SMOOTH – ALUMINUM
Lense made of: GLASS

Outside beamshot at 25 meters, only at FULL power (same place for all my reviews)

Wall beamshot at 250 centimeters, from lower to higher power (same place for all my reviews)

Ceiling bounce test with LUXmeter:

PROS:

- can use 26650 battery for longer runtime

- cheap

- well built for the price

  • host heats up, so heat transfer should be good

CONS:

- not perfectly machined diameter of tailcap threads

  • lumens output is quite good but there’s room for improvement

Final thoughts and why you should buy it:

I think that if you previously never owned a 26650 flashlight, this is a good first one to have

Thanks for reading……
….and if you notice some bad written phrases, feel free to correct me suggesting the right way to write it!!

my unit is XM-L …… i am finishing to upload all pictures…. review is not complete at the moment i’m writing.
edit : FINISHED!!!

And a good one to mod

Make sure you get some thermal paste under the MCPCB star base, mine was delivered with none!

Mine, bought about one year ago, have the idiot next mode memory.

I thought I read somewhere that can be fixed with a pencil? By drawing some conductive pencil lead on a capacitor...

Yes. I did and it works Attention! Solution for most of those next mode memory drivers!
Now I use a 75K resistor soldered up across the capacitor

i’m happy to see your comments

I got a one, the tail cap is holding by a thread literally by a thread. The tail cap is taped on and I switch batteries by removing the battery tube now.

Thanks for this good review of an interesting flashlight.
sorprendently = surprisingly
Does your Ultrafire F13 from Gearbest have next mode memory ?

Another ultrafire product with a lattice bright marketed as a cree.

thank you for the suggestion “surprising” …… i edited the review!
Sorry but i don’t remember about next mode memory and i can’t check it because i’ve given the flashlight to a friend!

Next mode memory but easy to 'pencil mod' to reset to high in ~2 sec. off.

[Pencil mod: drawing a mark on the timing capacitor to drain it faster (graphite is moderately conductive). A little trial and error might be needed to get the timing just right, resetting quickly but not so quickly that you can't change modes. Quite easy though, apply too much, just rub it off and start over.]
