Modded my Yezl S5

I have had this light for a while now and I really like it, but I got the itch to fix something that wasn't broken. For those not familiar it is a stainless steel AA/14500, 3 mode (H-M-L, w/memory) XP-G R5 light. Like a trustfire F22 but no blinkies and no transformer logos.

Off to the interwebz and some paypal abuse.

Ordered a Cree XM-L U2 bin from LCK-Led (LINK).

Hmm, better not drive an XM-L too hard on LiCo 14500's, so why not try out the BIO IMR 14500's (LINK)

Pulled the flashlight apart, no glue, so just a pair of c-clip pliers needed.

Drill out the aluminum reflector for the larger XM-L

New emitter in, like it was meant to be there.

Nicely centered (fingers crossed that I don't end up with an ugly beam)

Quick wall shot (the wall is green, the light has a nice tint)

Sweet! nice tight hotspot with no ugly rings. Success!

Hooked up the DMM and with the BIO IMR charged up I am pulling 2.2 amps on high with the stock driver!

I guess that 15mm 3 mode driver with High as DD that I was searching for was in my light all along.. (insert forehead smack here).

This is definitely a little pocket rocket now. A very easy mod and IMO very worth doing.

Nice job, I'd like to figure out how to do something like that to my Yezl S2. It is a beautiful light with a totally crappy beam. Not sure how easy it is to mod a side-clicky light though.

I upgraded a 1w 3xAAA generic side clicky with an R2 and a driver. Wasn’t too bad, just had to mod the heatsink a bit. The hardest part was fiddling and fighting to get the switch assembly in and out. The S2 is a nice looking little EDC. I wonder if there is a TIR that would fit it and improve your beam.

Nice!

It has a TIR in it already, that's one of the things I don't like about it~

Haven't seen that before, I wonder if emitter is not at the right depth of the TIR and could this be changed, (gapping the tir away or filing the bottom of it.

One thought, if the Yezl S5 is physically the same dimensions as the trustfire F22 I wonder if the reflector from the trustfire F23 could fit the Yezl S2? Before the driver crapped out, this gave a nice beam.
