Powerful light to shed on trespassers

Would like something with range out about 275-300’ for under $50…. if possible. Thank you*

Newbie here. I was searching for a light to use at our pond and came across BudgetLightForum.com With amount of info it appears to have here I am glad I found it!! Our pond is about an acre in size which I have posted for no trespassing and have only had a problem a couple times. We have several frogs in the pond that many of the neighbors and campers enjoy listening to at night. One night last week around midnight on the far side of the pond I saw a flashlight I assume were a couple guys gigging frogs. By the time I got over to that side they were gone. You probably know the question, I want to light the next guy up the brightest I can. What type of light would you recommend? I thought probably one of the rechargeable spotlights you can use in truck would be the best but would appreciate some expert opinions. I would also like to get one that is economical as I will mainly use it for this purpose. Thank you in advance for any and all ideas.

Hi, Shooter. And welcome.

It all depends on your budget. I can recommend any number and type of lights, but what is your price range?

Welcome.

How far is it to the pond in yards, Shooter?

(I’m thinking AceBeam K60 if he wants to shell out.
Orrr, an alternate idea, if you only want to spend $12, is get a
red laser, this one’s pretty good, good enough, it’ll may throw a tight spotlight on them, depending on the distance; they may think they’ve got a gunsight red laser spot on them; they won’t be back. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Military-2in1-650nm-Power-303-Red-Laser-Pointer-Pen-Beam-Light-Battery-Charger-/161630704614?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item25a1f0d3e6 )

Roy, the exact same thing I was just going to suggest.

Another option might be a fixed light with a motion sensor. That way, you wouldn't need to "notice" them at the pond before lighting them up.

On the other hand, wildlife could trigger it incessantly.

there are plenty of powerful flashlights to choose from but I reckon a ring of stadium-type lights controlled remotely from the house would be awesome!

You forgot the firecrackers to go along with that laser pointer.

1+
Red laser + a firecracker or two.

Look at the MX3S UT. There is a group buy on for it now,

Pretty sure it will light the guys up clearly

:) Thanks for the replys, I like the way you’re thinking. I may have to get one these also.

Joe, don’t want to sound cheap but since I’m only going to use it on the pond Id like to stick under $50. The pond has sort of an oblong or tear drop shape. As far as where the pond is located the closest end is about 50-60 feet from our front door and the far end is out by the road about 250-275 feet from front door. I had been thinking rechargeable spotlight maybe 5 million candle power or so.

TN-31 or K60, the first has plenty of throw, the other plenty of light and throw. Be careful when confronting strangers frog hunting at night, they might be armed, probably get yourself a nice weapon too.

Fog hunters need to be armed? :open_mouth:
Forget the laser and set some bear traps

Thanks Alex. Yes I’ve got a couple loaded. For the most part it is pretty mellow down here and the neighbors all keep an eye on each other. We live close to a lake and there’s a campground down the road. However it is one that is privately owned with permanent campers so we don’t get different campers in each week-end. Some have camped there for over 20 years. We’re friends with several of them. We get golf cart traffic with kids down here just cruising around and they cause no problem whatsoever. Alot of the kids of course like listening to the frogs too. I suspect it was probably a couple adults that were either visiting the campground or whatever. Maybe got a couple beers in them and decided to get some frog legs. But a no trespassing sign means no trespassing.

I do like the idea of the red laser and firecrackers as an add-on to a light. :)

I haven’t really kept up on nice throwers but how about the Yezl Y3 or classic HD2010 for the range he needs? Courui D01 perhaps?

Ultrafire 1504 or similar aspheric? Light them up, they won't know who you are or how far out you are...

Off hand, here are a couple of suggestions...

Select the de-dome option for the first and last selection and you will have excellent power + insanely long reach. About 70,000 kcd for the Convoy and 203,000 kcd for the Maxtoch. I recommend mtelectronics. You will get trusted, great service and fast shipping.

UF 1504 and Conrui D01 are alright, but there may be quality issues.

+1

This one of the longest throwing light in stock form, but price is a bit higher than your budget.

Group buy here

Is the olight MX3S UT maybe more than he needs? You can have too much throw. Would you know how tight the spot is at 250-275 feet?

Less than 100yards? Maybe all he needs is a C8?

If the pond is an acre then a C8 may suffice as the diameter may be only around 60 yards? If it is a good C8 would be ok. If you want to really surprise them with a brighter light then some of the choices mentioned would be better. I have a HD2010 which would be fine but as mentioned these vary in quality. If you’re willing to spend more then the options others post would be better as they throw further.
