Convoy C8 tailcap

My tailcap doesn’t work good, mayne the spring is bit broken.
I tried to open the tailcap to maybe replace him, but I didnt succeed.
I gave up and just want to buy a new one, but I only found for ultrafire c8 which doesnt fit the convoy c8.

is yours the new c8? or the old one?

if yours is the new version, you might need a new switch

just remove the old one to put this in

How do I know if I have the new one or the old one?
And the problem is that I didn’t succeed to disassemble the tailcap, so is there any place to buy the whole tailcap?

The newer one has square cut threads on the tail.

it has REVERSE threading on the tailcap. try turning it other way to get the switch out.

What’s wrong with the newer switch?

I still didn’t succeed to take this tailcap apart,
But I tried to stretch the string and it fixed the problem.
Anyway, now that I know I can’t open the tailcap I still want to know where I can buy a new tailcap.

try banggood.com
did you try counter clockwise I know for a fact that’s how it comes unscrewed.

I didn’t found any tailcap on banggod…
I tried to open it, I even have tool for opening things like that.
Right now it’s already too scrathched and damaged so I don’t think it’s possible to open it anymore.
Maybe I can find same size tailcap that originally used for another flashlight?

Hello.

Not sure how much it’s worth spending on a replacement cap for the C8.
May be a better deal to buy the cheapest new Ultrafire C8 you can find online and use that as a spare part light.

Anyways.

A couple of minutes on Google got me at least two hits:

http://www.lightsay.com/ultrafire-c8-flashlight-switch-c8-replacement-tail-cap-switch-assembly-p-1434.html
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/2pcs-lot-UltraFire-C8-Flashlight-switch-C8-Replacement-Tail-cap-Switch-Assembly/2039893793.html

The one on Ali Express is a lot of 2, so that might not be interesting.

Search engine input I used at Google was tailcap for ultrafire c8 if you want to do some more searching for yourself. The caps can maybe be found cheaper elsewhere.

Hey, thank you for helping but i’m not that stupid.
I already searched google and many sites,
And all I found was tailcaps for ultrafire.
Something else I found is that the ultrafire tailcaps doesn’t fit the convoy c8. (found that on fasttech)

Oops.
Sorry. I misread your post. I see now that I sort of read it backwards. I see clearly now

The retainer might be cross threaded. Bummer. Wrapping it in several layers of tape can reduce the likelihood of damaging it further. If you can’t find a replacement see if n10sivern can cerrakote it for you. A new empty host is likely the cheapest option though. Or see if someone has a damage older host you can buy instead. Even then, cost + shipping on just a used tail cap might total as much as a new host with free shipping.

the old c8 has some black thick plunger switch while the new uses 1288 style

so yea

i use older worn out micro shears to get these and pills out of lights ..i think I get lots of leverage and almost never jump out of a hole anymore .Curved hemostats work pretty well but the micro shears are the best thing I've ever used .

(i know you'r not that stupid )but you did catch where people said it's a reverse thread and to loosen you have to turn right instead of lefty loosey. this is done obviously to stop the loosening of the tailcap from repeated battery changes .

i don't know about you but i'm stupid ...and this one has caught me numbers of times:P

There was no issues with the old in plunger style. The new with the spring without plunger has a bad batch — some cold solder joints? That’s the other way around to me. Recall reading plunger style may have some weird contact issues, like the spring inside the plunger “buckling” that somehow results in disconnect that’s not visible. Thanks for clarification.

Any time a spring is used to carry main current it is at risk for overheating and losing it’s temper. 1/2A is enough to kill small switches so higher currents can ruin larger switches. Spring bypass takes care of the battery springs but cheap switches have the internal switch spring carrying current and these springs are much smaller and fail at lower currents.

Okay, so I finally succed to open the tailcap!
I had to open it clockwise…
Can I buy a new ring like that?
Mine is pretty ruined…

F Y I
I have found that a Circlip Pliers works well to remove & tighten these internal rings.

Well… My tailcap still does problems with the contacts.
I tried few things and noting works this time.
Should I replace the spring (solder a new one) or replace the entire switch?
and where can I buy new “internal ring” like the one in my tailcap?
