Test/Review of Windyfire 14500 800mAh (Purple)

Windyfire 14500 800mAh (Purple)

Official specifications:

  • Nominal capacity: 800mAh
  • Nominal voltage: 3.7V
  • Discharge cut-off voltage: 2.75V
  • Standard charge: 4.2V 500mA
  • Maximum charge current: 800mA
  • Continuous discharge current: 3A
  • Initial impedance max.: 70mOhm
  • Cycle life: 500cycle to 60%
  • Operating temperature: Charging, 0°C ~ 45°C, Discharging, -20°C~60°C
  • Storage temperature: -20°c -35°c
  • Weight: 20g

This LiIon battery is in AA size and contains about the same energy as a AA cell, but at 3 times the voltage.

The curves are not that good, the cells has about the same capacity, but not the same voltage at higher loads.
Note: The 5A curve is outside the specifications.

Conclusion

This cell is a disappointment, they do work up to the rated 3A, but I do not like the difference between the cells.

Too bad, the 14500 reds and the 26650 you recently tested, tested well. Looks like I’ll keep watching your reviews of their cells before buying anything new. Thanks for your time and effort doing the testing.

Looks like the flaming battery in the logo on these could be prophetic.

Excellent as always ...

Capacity looks to be 800mAh ,

Thanks for the review of HKJ, HKJ, i have a question , i see the capacity is enough, you mean the two battery have much difference
from the discharg curve.in a word, the two curve are much difference of the two battery, not the similar.

Thanks,HKJ.

Yes. The two cells has about the same capacity, at least up to 2A, but the curves do not track. This means there is some difference between the two cells, this implies that the production is not completely consistent.

Thanks for your reply. you are right, HKJ, i show the curve to our engineers and he told me the two battery are not capacity grading,
normally our factory will make capacity grading before the goods shipp out, the standard is all the battery of the same batch , the capacity is below 20mAh,voltage is between 0.005V, internal resistance is between 3mOhm. I see the curve of Sanyo 14500,800mAh you tested, their curve looks good than ours, but our capacity is over 800mAh. a little enough than Sanyo 14500 battery in capacity.

HKJ,the problems in your conclusion we can resloved. Thanks for the feedback again.

May I ask what the discharge ratting is ? ( dont often get to ask a factory rep such things ) ..( your 14500 tested )

Do you make 16340 ?

I have some hotrod 16340 lights that are destroying brand name batteries ( 16340 ) because they can do 4C or even better ( depending on the battery ) ..

The old standard for smaller cells was 2C for discharge , if you didn't want to destroy them ( battery )

The standard discharg rate of our windyfire 14500,800mAh battery is 3C(2.5A discharge current), the battery can reach 3A from HKJ’ s test review.

Our company do not produce 16340 battery now,but we are the agent of another brand battery, they have IMR 16340 battery, tomorrow i confirm the detail technology information for you. and see if it can reach your requirement of 4C
discharge.

Hi old4570
today i ask the 16340 factory ,their IMR 16340 can 5C discharge (3A discharge current).

5C , that sounds very interesting ...

Which batteries would those be ? ( How does one get some ? )

Hi Old4570,the IMR 16340 is “Shockli” brand ,their some battery have good feedback in UK,the weblink http://ukvapers.org/Thread-20A-18350-battery ,
you can get the IMR 16340 battery from us .

Hi old4570
our company will send 16340 600mAh 3A battery to HKJ test .then you can see it Performance

It will be interesting to see how it compares at 3A to the Efest V2 550mAh battery, which seems to be the “best” 16340 battery, based on the tests I have seen from HKJ and at dampfakkus.de

Hi,SubLGT,also i want to know the performance of our Windyfire 16340 battery compare with EFEST 16340 battery,
maybe HKJ can open this puzzle soon, let us keep watching it,
