Knife Review: Sanrenmu (SRM) Plus 4077 Multifunction Slipjoint Knife at Gearbest under $10!

Ok folks this is my first budget (or any) knife review. Gearbest sent me this sample for review, and it’s my first experience with a Sanrenmu knife. While I understand that steel is a big part of the allure of nicer knives, this Sanrenmu Plus 4077 with it’s “stainless steel” blade made me realize that budget stainless steel knife still can be made with a lot of care and quality. Oh and the blade length is 1.65in according to the specs or 1.75 according to my measurements.

I have paid much more for a stainless steel blade CRKT and Gerber, when really it seems the price premium in those knives really wasn’t worth it. Sometimes one needs a knife for beating up, and real EDC use- and this knife is really a no-brainer for the price. Great for warehouse work, or corporate show production work like I do. You can’t beat the value really.

Anyway check out my video review. It’s shot like my flashlight videos- so no table top stuff- but it’s still about as exciting as a video about a knife can be. I kept right at 5 minutes and there’s no crappy music. It’s fast paced with many many nice super macro shots of the detail found in this cool little knife. Watch it in full screen 1080p to experience all it’s detail. I get no kickback from this whatsoever- other than I got to keep my review sample- which at $8 I would have easily purchased it.

So subscribe to my channel to help me out! If you think this knife looks cool, buy it and gearbest might send me another. If you think it’s not for you- I still appreciate your support. Any constructive feedback is welcome- as always. I watched several knife reviews before doing this, so I tried to include relevant info. If there’s something missing, please let me know so I consider it for my next review. Ok, I’m done rambling.

Nice review! Comparing size with sk68, that’s how you say it in BLF.

It still shows $8.71 for me though, any coupons required?

Nope. It says 7.09 on the main page- but 8.71 on the cart screen, which is weird. I’ll email them about it because they told me until August 4th or longer it’d be 7.09. I wouldn’t expect a response until tonight though. I’ll correct the title until it get’s resolved.

Very nice review. Great footage!
Looks like a nice handy knife to have around. Might buy 1 or 2 to tuck in a drawer

Great review and video on that Sanrenmu folder. Just purchased some Ganzo knives and am very happy with the quality of these Chinese blades. Again good review.

Thanks for the review. Neat knife, though it doesn’t have a real lock. GB sent me one for review as well and I’m impressed with the build quality and the fit-and-finish so far. I saw the different packaging and almost assumed this was a knockoff, but the quality is up to snuff for a SanRenMu. So it’s a good knife if the lack of a lock is not a deal breaker for you. The 7010 is probably the better knife, but its solid frame lock might be a deal breaker in the UK where you’re not allowed to have locking knives. I used to scratch my head at some of their products until it clicked that slip joints are probably a huge market for them.

My firts experience with them, and it’s an awesome little knife. Carried it instead of my Endura 4 today.

Definitely worth it at this price.

Yeah, the manual says that this is a type of knife thats legal in China, and hearing about some other laws around the world- I’ll bet these are the only sorts of knives some people can buy. Yeah nothing cheap or knockoff about the knife… well made and solid, all the way

I have this folder and love it.

Hey everyone I updated the link and the knife is down back to 7.09. I think. Few of the styles run about $8… But it’s still a good deal.

EDIT: still trying to find out why the price is raising slightly at checkout.

wow this knife looks plain cheap. maybe 1.5$ factory cost. i love china!

Nice review, as usual. See that you’ve hired a new sidekick for this one.

Yeah, me and spider go way back.

Something still going wrong.

Ok, I sent another message, I’ll report back when I get an answer. I looked at it on my phone earlier and checked the cart price, but didn’t go all the way to check out. Sorry for the 2nd mix-up.

No problem, it goes fine until the last part. Shipping is all set to free, but I can’t change it to paid either. I can select the option, but the price won’t change.

As soon as they get back to me I’ll report back. This time I’ll go through all the steps to make sure it’s 100% correct. It’s a bit of a pain in my phone.

Excellent review as always, even if breaking into a new area of EDC. As I just got into budget knives myself, you seemed to cover the major points for folders. I recently saw that GB started to carry these, and was hoping someone would do a video review. Now there is. Might get one now. THANKS!!!

I just got one of these in the mail today. It’s well made for the price. If it’s truly 8Cr13MoV at 57-58Rc then it should prove better than your average cheap keychain knife in terms of edge retention. It does feel and look like a much more expensive knife than it is. The detent that “locks” it in place open and closed is nice and stiff, preventing (for now) the knife from accidentally opening or closing very easily. Mine came nicely sharp, I’ll know better how good they did the heat treating after I’ve had a chance to sharpen it and see how it reacts to the stones. If someone likes the look of it, so far it gets my recommendation for a good knife under $10 that is easy to carry.

I also got 2 Ganzo G719 automatics and a Ganzo G301-B multitool. Pretty happy with the G719’s, and still deciding on the G301-B. Some sort of secondary blade lock would be nice on the G719’s, but for light duty use I’m pleased with the look and build quality on them, especially considering their cost. For the G301-B it appears good, but it’s quite heavy. As is the case for something like this, my view on it will be determined by how it holds up over time to actual use.

It’s definitely well made. I like to carry a knife for at least a week before I do a review and this one carries OK. I would much prefer a regular tip up clip, but it rides OK in my pocket. I keep thinking “This might hang good from a belt loop” but haven’t tried it yet. So the lack of clip or lock is probably a deal breaker for me for EDC, and mine will probably be clipped to a bag or stashed in a glove box or something. But it’s a beautiful knife. The blade geometry almost reminds me of a Boker Gnome except that I can’t stand the Bokers. But the geometry itself is useful. Overall I like this knife and think it would probably carry much better with its carabiner style clip hooked to something like a bag or belt loop.

In some ways the Chinese are passing everyone up in knife design. Yeah I get that a lot of them are knockoff designs but a lot are original designs. And some of the knockoffs are as good or better than the originals. SRM is also the silent OEM known to make certain American brand knives and rumored to make others like the Spyderco Tenacious. The only thing they are behind in is the metallurgy. I’m still infatuated with my original GB-763.

Well the Chinese have been passing most US companies up by making high-tech affordable flashlights, so why not knives? This will not be my EDC knife, but an ADC (alternate day carry) knife. I prefer a much larger blade, because it comes in handy for lunch time, among other tasks. Plus, when I camp it’s hard to prep food with a tiny blade like this one or the one on my Leatherman. I’m on my 2nd Endura because I left it at work, and someone jacked it. Now it has terrible engraving with my name and email address on it- so maybe that will deter someone from picking it up if they see it laying around… or at least compel them to contact me. At my current job I’ve currently “lost” a Leatherman Wave, Sunwayman V11r, and my Endura. I’ve started carrying an alternate light to the V11r, but the other two are my favorites and I’d re-buy them if I lost them.

I still can’t believe this thing is sub $10. I alternate between putting it on a belt loop and hang it on the edge of my pocket. And yeah it clicks into place with a nice solid thud, with no play. I still don’t know if I’d ever buy a Gamzo multi tool, as I am so happy with the wave. I use my leatherman more than my pocketknives- because my work requires it. Maybe it’d be nice to switch it up every now and then- but I rarely go anywhere without my leatherman. The 25 year warranty is comforting too.
